New Story: Statistically Speaking

Statistically Speaking

The regular season is 25 percent complete, and Clemson is excelling in several national categories while struggling in a few others. TigerNet took a few minutes Monday to see where the Tigers stand nationally in several categories and were able to do that thanks to www.cfbstats.com. Full Story »

To be honest it is way too early for this piece. Many teams have padded stats due to beating up on the little sisters of the poor. Look at Chad Kelly and old miss in their first couple of games they put up huge numbers against no one same for BC in the win over Howard. I believe you need a month of League play before stats become meaningful...

His stats against 'Bama were not bad.

The first two games do not count. Start measuring from the Louisville game going forward. I know App. State is in the Sun Belt Conference, but really? The season now starts to separate the men from the boys.

Special teams problems... meh....

a crutch for complaints - entirely overblown.

Our punt return stats are poor because of the great kicker that Louisville had (hang time) and the way that App State kicked "Australian-style". With Scott and McCloud, it'll get better.

We gave up 1 KO return for a TD - 1 out of 17 - and as many have noted including the coaches, it was simply a positioning issue for a couple of players. Again - one has to believe it will get better as the players involved are starters. And while allowing teams to get to the 25-35 routinely on KO's isn't "exceptional", it's also not game-changing.

Adding 10 points to opponents' 3rd down conversion % - now that would be game-changing and worth some hand-wringing....

We've only returned 5 KO's - because the defense hasn't given up points - and 1 of them almost went all the way. This is bad how?

We've made 5 of 6 FG's with a new kicker.

Our punting is off from previous years but is anyone watching the 49ers to see how really good we had it with Pinion? We have slow "get-off" times, but we haven't had one blocked or had a bad snap either....

Methinks it's much ado about not much of anything for early in the season and a young team....

Having a horse kick the ball 50 yards every time will do wonders for your already stacked defense. And Pinion doing kick offs was routine touchbacks. You have to think this kid will get stronger. I think they see the issue and that's why they put more starters out there on kickoffs. And that #### Kearse kid has absolute wheels. He walked that kid down from 30 yards away.. Man that kid is fast..

Great point! Did he not do it in the game last year against Louisville to make that game saving tackle. A set of wheels indeed!

Think again, going forward with the teams we play. Kick-off coverage can easily be a huge game changer. It has got to be fixed.

Statistics are somewhat bogus

Sep 22, 2015, 8:08 AM

How many teams ran up scores, kept their first line of defense in and ran with six RB's? Stats really do not mean anything until the end of the season. That's just my two cents. Up the middle, up the middle, pass, punt!
