Dec 23, 2022, 8:57 AM

have a larger population than Alabama (by about 150k people) and have only 5 recruits rated 4 star or better while Alabama has 45 players rated 4 star or better?

Had a lot to do from peewee coaching and up. That is where development starts.

BBQ

Clearly Alabama white sauce is much more conducive to athletic development than mustard base.

Only a guess but seems like SC has a very large retiree population, both along the coast and in the Greenville/Spartanburg area. This would mean a higher overall population but less children. Would be interesting to see how the high school age population compares.

I checked my theory and found it to be completely wrong. According to an interweb search, SC and Alabama rank 28th and 29th respectively in number of high school students with there being only a difference of about 19,000 students. Must have more to do with tradition and culture as others suggested.

South Carolina 587394
Alabama 568542

Good research...I was wondering that as well.

Even more intriguing that it isn't the case.

Between Auburn and Alabama, that states ears, sleeps, drinks, and breathes football. The kids live a dream of playing. S.C., not so much. Until the last 6 years, SC has had two mediocre programs. It takes Clemson's rise a long time to filter down.

Pretty simple actually

Dec 23, 2022, 9:38 AM

The heritage of blue chip football in that state is ridiculous. Because of Bama and Auburn’s history, the sport has had time to grow both deep and wide in that state. Not sure if it’s still this way, but when my cousins were born there (it’s been 25 years ago) every boy born in a hospital received a football, and football toys. Every. Single. Baby. Boy. Now THAT’s a culture that takes generations to develop. And not many states are going to have that type of culture.
