This sums it up beautifully:

Jan 13, 2023, 11:30 AM

Swinney appears to have found someone in Riley who can add some serious spice to an offense that was, from an X's and O's standpoint, pretty vanilla. Vanilla worked with Trevor Lawrence and Deshaun Watson and a host of NFL backs and receivers. Without them, vanilla has just looked ... bland."

Jan 13, 2023, 2:18 PM [ in reply to This sums it up beautifully: ]

I agree with every last word said bc, I have said the exact same thing on numerous occasions, even down to the only reason we have won like we've won in the past even with Tony Elliott, it has been bc of the caliber of exceptional talent that we've brought in year in and year out, to even saying that the talent that we've been lucky enough to get has done what they have done without top coaching. A long with the TD's I've gotten bc I was able to recognize the problems we're having, I have scoffed at, talked down to, and ask where have I coached at.

I will respond now bc I wasn't the only one that saw and understood what was happening with the FB team that I have loved and followed the majority of my life every week without ever allowing anyone to schedule or make plans for my Attendance on any day that my Tigers were schedule to play FB for the entire FB season, and anyone that knew me, they knew without question, it they really want Henry to be at any functions they were having, they knew it had to be schedule around my Tiger FB games, or I wouldn't be there. Another thing,

Probably the best reason I can give of why I'm not a coach, is bc I'm not cut out to be a teacher of that many young men at once, and I;m sure that I would fail at coaching miserably bc I do not have the patients that it takes to be a good or successful teacher, but that doesn't mean that I'm not able to see or diagnose a glaring problem when I see it, I was a automotive/diesel mechanic for most of my life, and that means that I had to be able see or hear the problem when a vehicle was brought to me to repair, and FB has moving parts that each part has a function just like a gas or diesel has, and for me it's easy to see or hear why all those different parts/pieces aren't working correctly together, as I recognized the reason of why our FB team wasn't meshing together as one. In FB, it's mostly bc the player aren't complimenting each other, and the coach/mechanic don't know what it will take to fix it, and with Streeter, it was bc he didn't have enough experience to recognize what player/players was causing the team to breakdown... I mean that's the way I see things, and it doesn't mean that I believe that I'm always right bc I know that I'll never be perfect like some believe they are in their own mind. I'm just saying that I know what some things are supposed to look like when they're in sync with all the pieces that it takes for it to operate correctly.

And most of the time that reflects on who's matching all the pieces that should complement each other through the system, and I didn't see that happening with Streeter. When Streeter has been around some power 5 programs long enough with another experience coach, he too will learn how to match all the pieces, and TE IMO, just wasn't the right person for teaching Streeter those things bc TE wasn't that well taught as an OC, and if not for our Brent Venables defense, TE would have failed as OC just as Streeter did!!!! I'm not kicking Tony, I'm just pointing out that he wasn't that great as OC, and it showed with his play calling ability, and we all saw him make some head scratching calls that our opponents saw coming and was prepared for as soon as the ball was hiked they were all over it, and our talent level then bailed Tony out to many times, like DW4 and TL16 and their receivers and RBs!!!

The part that makes me look forward to next season is:

Then, in his first year at TCU, he helped turn Duggan, a four-year starter who had never thrown for more than 2,100 yards or 16 TDs in a season, into a Heisman runner-up who had 3,698 yards and 32 TDs. Riley is a patient playcaller who isn't all flash, but instead blends a power running attack -- Kendre Miller ran for more than 1,200 yards between the tackles this season -- with a simplified Air Raid passing scheme to wear defenses down and pop big plays.

Shipley and Mafah pounding and pounding, then Klubnik's arm gets some work.

If he can win with less talent, which is where we are right now compared to the past, that's a good thing.

When we win with less talent, it will attract more talent.

When we have more talent, we will win even more than we did with less talent.

2023 might be too early for another natty, but I feel good about 2024.

I’m SUPER STOKED about this hire and I’m very happy a change was made. But let’s be real here. This isn’t the only piece of the proverbial puzzle that needs to be addressed. I’m hoping to hear about more than just 1 change. Go TIGERS and welcome home Coach Riley!

Do we need a new OL coach? or just better players. The transfer portal may be open to some Texas OL heavies.

Either Dabo is lying or Cade. They can’t both be telling the truth.

Cade looked amazing in the ACCCG. The play calling and the OL were a hot mess against Tennessee.

After the ACCCG Cade said in the press conference that he had 30% of the snaps with the starters that week in practice and it was the first time he practiced with the starters all year. If that is true, and there is no reason to believe it’s not, it means he was never given an opportunity to out play DJ. And it explains why he looked so inconsistent in the few opportunities he was given.

Factor in 10 years of history with Dabo-speak and the fact that it was obvious he was babying and protecting DJ, I am more than inclined to believe Cade. Plus the evidence, and what we could see with our own eyes lines up much better with Cade’s version.

During this string of 10 win seasons and championships we have had the talent, but our offensive philosophy has always been lacking. Not to mention the sub optimal play of our OL. Simply fixing the OL would’ve made us practically unstoppable. If we change the offensive philosophy and maximize our talent our offense will be formidable. Improve the OL as well and we will be a juggernaut. Forget Air Raid. Hello blitzkrieg!!

Now if we could only find a coach to teach our DB’s how to cover someone!

This isn’t the type of thing that’s open to interpretation or has different viewpoints. It can’t get more black-and-white than this. Either he got an opportunity and practiced with the starters or he didn’t.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

At what program does the back-up get more than 30% of snaps

2

Jan 13, 2023, 3:41 PM

with the starters during practice?

30% actually sounds on the high side.

5

Jan 13, 2023, 4:05 PM

The most important point clearly went over your head.

Dabo is saying in public that Cade was not ready to take the job. Dabo is saying in public he expected Cade to win the job sooner. Everyone knows DJ has sucked for the past two years. Yet in spite all of this Cade said in the press conference following the ACCCG that the week before the conference championship game was the first time he practiced with the starters all year.

What major college football program that has a struggling quarterback doesn’t have their five star freshman get at least a few snaps every practice with the starters?

Forget that for a moment. What major college football program doesn’t let their back up quarterback get a few snaps every practice with the starters in case the starting quarterback gets hurt?

If you don’t understand these things clearly you don’t understand football and I can’t help you.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

When the starter struggles he needs the practice snaps.

2

Jan 13, 2023, 4:14 PM

In any event, 30% for the back-up is a reasonable amount.

It’s on the high side actually.

You don’t need to worry about helping me understand football.

Re: When the starter struggles he needs the practice snaps.

1

Jan 13, 2023, 5:19 PM

It wasn't 30% all year. It was the week of the ACCCG. So all the way thru Scar, Cade got 0% reps with the first team, according to him.

It is hard to beat someone out, let alone be consistent when his name is called to play, with little to no reps with the 1st team.

The people that post on this forum are no more intelligent than people posting on YouTube and other places. Their inability to use simple logic and common sense is beyond comprehension. Even more hilarious is the fact they think they know anything about football or sports in general. They will twist themselves into pretzels to rationalize and justify the most idiotic viewpoints.

But keep believing you’re an expert on distribution of snaps between starters and back-ups.

I’ll just sit back and let you run with it.

Re: When the starter struggles he needs the practice snaps.

Jan 13, 2023, 8:32 PM [ in reply to Re: When the starter struggles he needs the practice snaps. ]

So, who got the 70% of the snaps during the week prior to the ACC title game when Cade had been named the starter?

The answer is … Cade.

Once Cade was named the starter, he got 1st team snaps the week prior. Which is the way it works when you’re the starter.

Before that, DJ was the starter. He got the 1st team snaps.

You can argue that the strategy of keeping DJ as the starter up until that moment was wrong, but that’s an entirely different issue.

I think Dabo had to eat a slice of humble pie on this one, and some of our fans have too.

It's funny how people expect coaches to just come out with an open book regarding how they feel about coaches, players, matchups etc. Dabo plays a balancing act between keeping his coaches and teams head in the game while still appeasing the media and fan base. Obviously he is not going to trash his OC to some two bit reporter. He has a plan and handles things internally. That is what good CEO's do. No need to show his hand to everyone.

Dabo didn't need to make this move. He has a huge contract and is set for life. 11-3 and an ACC title is nice little season but it's not elite. Now we have a plan to get back to Best is the Standard. Best news for the program in quite a while.
