Somebody tell me, what skills is Jordan Leggett missing

Apr 29, 2017, 10:32 AM

that is, obviously, making him a lower draft pick? He is a sure handed tight end that I thought NFL scouts would drool over! The man made so many clutch plays for Clemson, that I thought he'd at least be a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Blocking?

I am guessing, but perhaps his lack of top end speed and

he's not a great blocker.

Honestly, I think JL is goin' B a steal for someone; Lack luster blocking, but..
Great Hands, good route runner, size, and creates miss matches.
He just makes plays.....Someone's going get a good player here.

Leggett.

Tell that to Alabama.

Honestly,

after hearing them talk shid about tank last night, I think at least a fraction of it is that he's from Clemson. Bama players can do nothing wrong. Turns out tank "can't commit to the run"...so I guess Jordan has two crucial drops, or he can't block, or he isn't fast enough.

After his superman td and the clutch catch on the winning natty drive, I would have chosen him in the 2nd or 3rd round. If he would have played for Bama, he would've been drafted in the top 15.

I was ALWAYS disappointed in his blocking. To be his size he should have been able to get a standoff with OLB's and beat CB's and S's....I just never saw it on a consistent basis. In fact I saw him lose that standoff many times at the point of attack. He has made some great catches for us, but I think that the NFL is looking for the total package in the first 3 rounds of the draft.

Boy I couldn't agree more. The only thing I can figure is he doesn't run a 4.5 forty. But how many 265 lb'ers do? He's athletic .....fast enough.....and can catch like fly-paper.

Better than Palmer and Allen, imo.

What do you know of the TEs that have been drafted ahead of him?

Apr 29, 2017, 11:13 AM

Other than knowing that Clemson was OJ Howard's b1tch (I know I know, "we aren't his #####, we just had broken coveragea in both games") I don't know much about the others. Maybe the other players just project better in the eyes of teams looking for a TE.

Above link says he may have the best hands. Its just the rest of his game needs work.

Blocking, blocking, blocking

Apr 29, 2017, 11:17 AM

He's not a 1 back, I formation TE. That hurts him in the pros. Saints or Pat's are really is only great fits.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

exactly...

Apr 29, 2017, 11:39 AM

He has always been a below average blocker . Great as a pass catcher but lacking elite speed and has ranged from lazy early on to below average terminally as a blocker

The knocks I've heard are lack of top end speed and he doesn't play

Apr 29, 2017, 11:19 AM

really strong.

Not knocking any player, but when they discussed TE that were drafted, they mentioned blocking as an issue on most. Only highlights slowed were catching passes (usually wide open).

He is a below average Blocker which is important for TE***

Perhaps my view is biased because I played TE

Apr 29, 2017, 12:28 PM

a long time ago when things were different and more run oriented, but it has always seemed to me that not only can Leggett not block, he also doesn't seem to want to block. He was often late to the point-of-attack and seemed reluctant to stick his nose and forearm on a defender. He seemed to be looking out for cow piles that he might step in rather than looking for someone to block. He rarely was aggressive in his ability to gain and maintain the proper blocking angles and he has a tendency (as do many these days) of playing patty-cake with hand blocks, instead of aggressively driving a defender away from the play to create a hole - a problem with a lot of today's linemen.

I agree with above article on his prospects that claims he rounds off routes, but don't see it as always a flaw because what he's doing is looking for open space. Once he finds it, the ball often finds him because he's such a big target and can usually catch the ball.

I think he was a converted WR, which may explain his lack of blocking fundamentals, but we've had WRs who blocked a lot better than Leggett. That said, his catch in the 'Bama game was a thing of beauty and makes up for everything else.

Our players have plenty of flaws (as do the players of all teams), but our coaches have a way of understanding the flaws and using a player's strengths in combination with other players to best overall advantage.

Mayock has Leggett #88 in his top 100***
