Somebody educate me on a misdeamor.

I'm not trying to restir the "UGA is a bunch of thugs" debate. I just need an education.

The article below says Carter was charged with "street racing and reckless driving." Is says both charges are misdemeanors.

Street racing is a misdemeanor? I had no idea.

When I took drivers ed it seemed like a pretty serious deal if you were pulled over going 30 over. That’s been a long long time ago so maybe this has changed.

Now a days you can block the roads and race like they do in Fast and Furious. Not enough cops to worry about the petty stuff.

The problem is that he sounds proud that it's a misdemeanor. Like it's ok...
Do y'all get that feeling?

I'm not a lawyer but I don't know if that is true when fatalities are involved. Never mind, it does say he is being charged with misdemeanors.

Yes, once got busted speeding 25+ over in college racing a buddy. I was charged with "reckless driving ". Was a misdemeanor. I hired a lawyer and got it thrown out. That's the world we live in.

Can’t they by law take or suspend your license as well?

They can suspend your license for failing to pay the ridiculous seatbelt toll which (like so many other traffic laws: exist as a means of creating tax revenue—

Have a car crash hitting a ditch and being thrown out of a car and you'll understand a seat belt law is to keep you from breaking your back, ribs, collar bone, wrist, leg, dislocate your ankle, get a concussion, bruised internal organs, and have multiple surgeries for plates, screws and pins . Oh yeah, then you can spend weeks in a hospital bed and go to the doctor in an ambulance. Other than that, I didn't need a seat belt.

Here’s what I’m not understanding

and maybe somebody has already posed this question. If these vehicles were racing each other, wouldn’t the vehicle with Carter in it have noticed the other vehicle crashing, and stayed at the scene to make sure the occupants were at least okay? Maybe they did come back, and the details are coming out slowly, but if they didn’t and fled the scene, that has a lot of red flags.

I read somewhere that he did stick around after the accident. Reporting said he gave misleading info to the police. He likely withheld that both cars were driving recklessly.

Bretfsu I know that you and I have to be about the same age.In the 60's,
there was street racing among young punks that had those high performance
engines in their cars and they would drag race all of the time. It would
be a misdemeanor for racing but if you caused bodily injury or death it
would have been vehicular manslaughter.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Driver of the car that wrecks is the one who is charged with veh manslaughter.

Unless he physically was involved in wreck. Kinda like malcolm greene and fred davis. Davis was only one charged.

It's coded separately, but basically a variation of reckless driving.

However, Kemp's new law makes it illegal to even talk about street racing. At least until it gets a constitutional challenge:

Stupid fascists and their attacks on America.
