How do you see our QB situation working out after DW

I know its hard to make a prediction on that when we haven't seen much from our backups but with Cooper, Isreal, Bryant plus 2017 commits 5* Hunter Johnson and 4* chase Brice we will have a lot to choose from but only 1 can be the QB. If you had to pick, who do you think will take the snaps after Watson?

In 2017 and 2018 I see Bryant or Cooper winning it.

Johnson. He is a great duel threat qb. Not as good as DW but he's special.

I think Brice thinks he's better too, which is why I think he still committed to Clem even after Johnson switched over to us from Tenn first.

This offense is tailored for DW. Which ever QB comes out on top after DW leaves will have the same luxury. I believe this coaching staff is evolving the game. The creative element is there with the OCs and the talent is abundant.
I grieved over losing CJ, Nuk and Sammy yet we got better and better afterwords. I won't grieve over losing another player to the draft.

I don't think there was any doubt we would be fine, in fact that may be understating it a bit. We will have elite program problems like too many 4* and 5* to choose from. I would say that's more than fine. I don't see our oc's being here still if we have another year like the past on offense.

I get what you're saying, but there is a big difference between losing a 1st round skill guy and the potential #1 overall field general.
We saw when DW was hurt how much of a difference he makes to the team.
Losing him will be quite possibly the biggest loss in Clemson history.

.... we have rarely ('ever'?) had a talent like DW4, so I think anyone of us should/would be forgiven for lamenting his loss (ala 'death and taxes'....)

that Bryant will be our sole starting QB. Seems like with all that talent somebody else will step up. Maybe QB by committee?

Teams that are in the hunt for the title year to year have

at least two high quality QBs who can win for them.
Next year, either Kelly Bryant or Zerrick Cooper has to become "that guy" ... or, maybe Tucker Israel (??)
After that (post DW4) it will be very interesting to see which of our fleet of quality QBs rises to the top and what happens to those who don't.
In the past we've seen some highly rated QBs migrate to other positions and become stars ... Patrick Sapp, Terrence Mack, Dexter McLeon, Andy Hedden come immediately to mind and going further back there was the great Charlie Waters.
I fully believe Kelly Bryant could start at several positions if he failed to make it in the QB race. Guys like Tucker Israel on the other hand, I dunno.

Maybe dual qb's unless Bryant improves his passing?

Cooper and Bryant? Whatever, it sounds like an healthy situation. Brice seems to be most similar to Watson - maybe him in 2018?

how do you know his passing isn't good enough?...

The coaches barely called any pass plays when he played this past season. And he has a whole other season learning from Deshaun. There is a lot of upside to Bryant

Coaches called zero pass plays for him.
Both have had a year in the system.
Bryant obviously had the advantage of reps , but so did stoudt.
I've seen tnet posts concerning tuckers passing but haven't seen any justification for these posts.

Some say it's crazy talk, but Bryant could be awesome at WR

He wasn't much of a true passer at Wren & didn't get many pass plays called for a reason---he's a runner first. If cousin Martavis can figure it out, so can Kelly.
I don't see any way that we hang onto all these QB's we have lined up for the next 5 or 6 years.

QBs from that list I haven't seen in action at this level:
Jan 28, 2016, 12:08 PM
|
|
Israel, Cooper, Johnson, Brice.
Clemson QBs I have seen in action at this level: Bryant.
What I know: Bryant looked pretty good at what he was asked to do in limited action this year. He is big, fast, and athletic. Coaches are very high on him.
What I don't know: How Israel, Cooper, Johnson, or Bryce will perform at this level; any prediction would be little more than a wild guess and wishful thinking at this point. I don't know how good Bryant is or will be at throwing the ball downfield.
Pure speculation, but I'm pretty confident that Kelly Bryant will not move to WR, RB, Safety, or LB, but in fact, will take over the reins at QB when Watson leaves for the NFL; he will be THE MAN. Now for the wild guessing: I expect a fierce battle for Kelly's back-up, and would not be surprised to see Israel, Cooper, Johnson, Bryce, or some combination thereof to get some PT or possibly even displace Bryant as starter at some point further down the road, likely in the following season if at all.

Israel lacks velocity on his passes, so he is at disadvantage and has less room for error because of that. Will have to wait and see on Cooper, once he starts practicing and what the coaches say about him will give us a clue as to where he stands early on

What this fan base needs to understand is DW was one of a kind. Any of these kids can have great careers but they will not be a Watson. No one is. That kind of talent comes along very rarely. We have never seen one like him. May never again.

Deshaun is not irreplaceable. Sure there is no reason to expect Bryant or any other QB to take over and replace him by himself but in 2017 we will likely have the most talented and experienced WR group in the country.
You probably only lose Mike Williams and Germone Hopper after 2016 to the draft or graduation. You then have a senior Artavis Scott, Junior Cain, McCloud, Renfrow, Thompson, Sophomores or Redshirt Freshman Powell, Chase and Overton.
Williams will be a Junior at TE with Richard and Smith while Chalk will be a Redshirt Freshman likely.
RB group probably loses Wayne but you have Choice, Fuller, Feaster as experienced backs.
OL will bring back everyone except Guillermo.
Defesne won't lose much as Tank, Boulware, and Watkins are the only guarantees to leave.
Point being is that the team will be more seasoned with greater leadership and experience. We have been stockpiling talent like never before and so Bryant or whoever just has to be good enough. We needed Deshaun in 2015 because the WR corps lost a lot and the OL was being broken in. They needed a stable DIY commander back there to bail them out. Now the team is more balanced in 2016 and in 2017 I expect Bryant as a Junior to be just fine. He doesn't necessarily have to do it all, just enough.
So when I say Deshaun isn't irreplaceable, I mean that the offense can function without him in 2017. I fully expect Deshaun to hold the mantra of greatest Clemson QB for a long time. Just a reminder Sammy was a once in a while talent we survived and the WR group stayed strong. CJ was a dynamic one in a million, RBs stayed alive under Ellington and even Hot Rod and now is elite again with Wayne. What about Dwayne Allen, we had Ford, a short lull and now Leggett with Williams showing promise.
Bryant or whoever will be fine and I trust Streeter to field the best one. They won't have to throw for 4000 and rush for 1000 as the rest of the offense will be better than Deshaun's peers were in 2015.
