Softball pitching vs Baseball pitching

Can anyone tell me why baseball teams put out a predicted starting rotation for a series, whereas softball does not? TIA

Probably because in softball there's and 70% chance it will be your ace and 30% chance her back up. That's probably the only thing I don't like about softball (besides the field being too small) if you have 1 dominate pitcher, you are set. You really don't need any depth. If they were to predict rotations it would be Valerie, Valerie, Millie or something to that extent.

I agree that the field is too small. Back in 91/92 my niece led her team with 8 home runs, they were playing on the BASEBALL field....by the way, she went to college on a Softball Scholly !!

I felt like it was too small… there were plenty of HRs hit by non-college potential players. 250’ is a big shot for most college players and gives the fast players room to make their mark on the bases.

You have asked a good question that I have wondered about too. Valarie, and many like her, must have amazing arm strength to throw as many pitches as they do in one season. I guess the underhand throw isn’t as damaging on the shoulders as the regular throw but 100 + pitches several times a week makes me ache to just think about it.

the bookies pressured the majors into reporting pitching and starting line ups so they can adjust their odds.
College baseball followed suit and has been doing it as a tradition ever sense.
no such pressure on softball.. yet

The underhand style of pitching is a more natural movement. So it usually doesn't have as big effect on fatigue that overhand throwing does. Pitchers have less injuries especially in the shoulder area. Valerie went the entire last season with her injury and no one outside of the organization knew about it. Except under certain circumstances it takes at least 2 great pitchers to reach the world series and win it. Tennesse had a great pitcher in Monica Abbott a few years back and still wasn't able to win it all. Teams like Washington had Danielle Lawrie and won it all. It really depends on who's behind them when they have a bad day. Look at FSU this year. They pretty much had a pitch by committee, where the opposing team rarely sees a pitcher more than once in a game.

The reason is softball pitching is natural movement of the shoulder, not damaging to it like an overhand throw. Baseball shoulders need rest. Softball u ride ur horse, they may get tired or sore but rarely injured. But u still need depth.

Forest has the point. In baseball, the arm slot overhead isn't natural and your shoulder swells. In softball, 150 pitches won't. That liberty gal we faced started something like 6 games in a row.
Now, you do tend to lose some velocity and control with that number... and focus. You'll see in softball the batters pick up on a pitchers rotation of pitches. Similar to reading a qbs eyes.

Baseball is a minor sport and only has a small number of scholarships to be divided up. Softball is a sport with fewer players which means fewer pitchers. The easiest way to look at it is to look at a good softball pitcher and you will know why there are just not many available.

Right handed pitchers in baseball. Baseball managers often adjust their batting orders trying to gain an advantage based on which side of the plate their players bat from. In softball you never see the double switch or any attempt to mitigate a left or right handed pitcher; so, I assume it doesn’t matter as much which arm an underhanded pitcher uses.

you HAVE to pitch different pitchers in successive games of a series. Right now, ONE really dominant pitcher can carry a team further than they otherwise deserved to go. Softball, and baseball are unique sports in the respect that one player can totally change the fortunes of a team.
Take the 1972 baseball Philadelphia Phillies, for example. Steve Carleton went 27-10, and won the Cy Young award. The whole Phillies TEAM only won 59 games that year. Now, Carleton started 41 games, basically 1/4 of their games. If he had been able to start ALL of them, duplicating his same percentage, the team would have won over 100 games! That terrible team would have made the playoffs at the very least.
Now, softball does not have pitchers that start EVERY game, but some teams try to get as close to that as possible. For instance, Monica Abbott pitched in 69 games for Tennessee in 2005. 69 games in ONE season!
I just think that there ought to be changes made to softball rules so that a whole pitching STAFF comes into play more often than any individual player. Right now, there are far too many good pitchers riding pine due to the dominance of aces. But, hey, that's just my opinion, and we know what is said about opinions.
