good croots, maybe not 5-stars, but solid 4-stars. Good character guys and all that. Will that be enough? Can we hang with the Bama's, UGA's & Ohio States? And the johnny-come-lately NIL stars of the moment... like Texas A&M, Oregon, etc. I don't know, just wondering. The whole college football world has changed. Maybe I just need to go to bed.

if we can get the guys we want, we'll be fine.

of course, internal evaluation will dictate if we're getting the guys we want well before they actually (hopefully) hit the field. Solid 4 stars at this point can turn into 5 stars, not that stars are all that (Renfrow for the Natty). And the guys we want for character issues are ones who might not flip for big NIL.
I'm also concerned that we get the guys we want go for NIL $$$ flash. In this period before there's solid data, that will be dicey. I've yet to see, though not searched closely, NIL deals that are qualified by performance. Why wouldn't they be? Just haven't seen it. Does a donor group or bidness want to guarantee a zillion dollars for a guy that don't start?
wheels are turning at the NCAA and elsewhere, everybody knows this is stupid without mods. Thanks, Deon.

the "super blue chip" 5-stars. Wilkins, Big Dex, TL4, Higgins, Cain, Booth, etc. Guys who were rated in the Top 10 nationally at their position... not Top 25 in the state of GA or whatever... Top 10 in the freaking nation. That's a big difference. Yes of course, the roster was also filled out by some good 4-stars and overachieving 3-stars. And the one-in-a-million walk-on Renfrow...
I don't know. It just like seems we're taking a lot of guys now who are a shade less than where we were just a few years ago. And I don't see us in the running for all the highest rated 5-stars that have yet to commit. Looks like most of em are SEC bound, or Sou Cal, Ohio St, etc.
And I'm with you on not understanding the full impact of NIL money and how that works...

when you look at 4 yr avg class.
2016, Finished #1, 4 yr recruiting avg was 14th
2017, Finished #4, 4 yr recruiting avg was 11th
2018, Finished #1, 4 yr recruiting avg was 9th
2019, Finished #2, 4 yr recruiting avg was 11th
2020, Finished #3, 4 yr recruiting avg was 7th
2021 was our highest rated team and finished the lowest over that time frame. See QB position.

Get good athletes with character and work ethic, and coach them up. If the refitted staff does as good a job on the practice field throughout the week as in the past, I'm not too worried. I think the schools that have gone all in on pay-for-play players are going to experience some disappointments in the character/work ethic attributes of some of their highly-rated five-star guys. Our down year last year really boiled down to two things...too many injuries that cause a few position groups an inability to gel, and quarterback play (which a tiny part can be blamed on injury there). Keep the current OL healthy and gameplan around having a weaker QB than in past years and we won't have any trouble having a very good season. Maybe not strong enough for a top 4 spot, but a solid top 10 spot without a doubt. Elevated quarterback play will almost always be what separates the championship contenders in modern college football...that's the primary unknown going into this coming season.

as DJU wasn't just some run of the mill 5-star QB... he was, by all accounts, maybe the best HS quarterback anyone had ever seen. Big, physical, 6-4 250, rocket arm, could throw the ball 80 yards, smart, good family background, led his team to the Calif state title at the highest level, you name it... he checked all the boxes, and then some. People were talking about him winning the Heisman as soon as he stepped on the field...

we have the players to make the playoffs.
We need (and everyone needs, IMO) elite QB play to win it all. If 5 is taking snaps, I'm still bearish until proven otherwise.

Not sure we can win it all, but the table is set for final 4. Like you said, gonna have to see how long it takes Dabo to grab the cane and yank DJU off the stage.

through this crazy, evolving landscape of college football... against all odds, without the $millions to throw at teenagers... and his insider hiring pays off with dedicated coaches who love CU and we have less turnover... and we field Top 10 teams and make the playoffs...
I will unabashedly worship at his alter and seek to touch the hem of his garment.

I'm glad he's our guy, but I can also see why sparks hate and controversy among rivals and the media. True believers WANT you to know they're true believers and that does scare people.
