and Illinois have had similar retention to us:
In 2024:
Ohio state had 22 players transfer out Penn State had 19 players transfer out Oklahoma had 24 players transfer out Arizona State had 30 players transfer out Illinois had 34 players transfer out
Not very accurate

Yes Kathleen your retention argument is shot ! We held on to a roster full of Dabos friends sons, Dabos children , and their friends from Daniel high school . That is really working out well

It’s not surprising really, the main reason guys transfer is for playing time. As we don’t over recruit or heavily use the portal we don’t have a tremendous amount of depth, especially depth that would start elsewhere.
Depth is what normally transfers in the hopes of starting somewhere else, of course you do have some starters like Mukuba who wanted to be challenged. But most starters don’t want to take the risk,. The portal landing success rate is only about 50-65% depending on how you define at “success”. That’s a huge risk to take for an incumbent starter.
All this to say our low portal out rate isn’t some crowning achievement to be envied, it just means our depth isn’t what it used to be
