So, is acc football getting better?

Nov 9, 2013, 7:51 PM

We are and FSU certainly is but is the acc better as a whole?

Duke is better but VT, GT, UNC, NCSt and BC are disapointing***

I would say yes

With miami winning games I give us an edge over years past. If VT was good we could argue we are a strong conference. We really need strong also-rans like the SEC. Hopefully Louisville BC and such like can provide that.

Louisville will not be an also-ran...

I wouldn't be surprised if they challenge Miami for the Coastal division next year.

Definitely...I think next year Miami starts to really take off as a program

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's very top-heavy...

Nov 9, 2013, 7:55 PM

FSU, Clemson, and supposedly Miami are all really good. The bottom is really bad. The middle of the conference, whoever that is, is better than it has been in the past. The biggest thing is the re-emergence of Miami.

Like you said,

Our top heavy is getting better. FSU US and Miami are improving noticeably. The others are not and are down. I dont think thats a bad thing...if we can have 3 or 4 consistent top 15 teams it will be more beneficial to the conference than what we have seen the last 5-10 years where most everyone is slightly above average.

Yea there's nothing wrong with being top heavy for a few years. As you mentioned, the big difference is our top is reaching the "Elite" level. If we and FSU finish this year strong, it'll be two years in a row with 2 ACC teams finishing in the Top 10. Potentially even two in the top 5 if things were to go REAL well.

This is absolutely huge for the conference because I think the argument could be made that the most important thing for a conference (and probably teams too) is a high level of positive exposure. The more the conference keeps multiple teams in that top tier, the more it'll trickle down to the other teams. This is of course boosted by a programs willingness to invest.

In my opinion, we have the opportunity to have 4 consistently elite programs in the conference: FSU, Miami, VT, and ourselves. However I think squads like BC, NC, NC State and even Virginia have the ability to be in the 15-25 range every few years. This would mean a lot to the conference too.

I think when Louisville arrives, they're going to be at a level which can also be elite. It's not out of the question to expect 3-4 Top 20 teams per year.

It will come down to

Nov 9, 2013, 7:58 PM

FSU Clemson Louisville
Miami VT and GT

Georgia Tech needs to fire Paul Johnson and get with it. They have a good recruiting base and have a large market to appeal to. Their lack of success along with VT is what is holding the ACC back right now.

carolina is my biggest disappointment***

I think so. If the lower teams could at least have a respectable depth chart, I would feel safe in saying we had a competitive conference. Obviously WF, VA, CUSE, PITT etc are below par for d1. But I believe we are making strides as a conference.
