NIT Bracketology says no right now. Might need two or three wins. FSU not on the line yet either and higher metrics than the Tigers

The NIT used to be called the losers tournament. Since the ncaa bought it they have cataloged it in the “Everyone gets a trophy” mentality.
IMHO if you cant be one of the top 66 teams to make the real tournament you arent anyone. Our program should at the least be in the top 66 in the nation. Why accept mediocrity?

Yea kind of my mindset as well. Can’t see the benefit of playing in the NIT. Thought I may be missing something.

The “Top 66” teams actually don’t make the NCAA tournament.

We all know that.

Every year teams end up in the NIT that are better than 12-14 teams with NCAA bids.

Taking the upset winners of mid-level conference tournaments as well as the regular season champ of these small conferences is the epitome of “Everyone Gets a Trophy” mentality. For that matter, expanding the field to 66 at all was a move in that direction.

For Clemson to get an at large bid out of the ACC, they have to be a lot better than the 66th team in the country.

This is not an excuse for Clemson failing to secure a bid. This year they haven’t done well enough even for the NIT.

But it’s a valid reason for why Clemson and other teams in major conferences often win 20 p+ games, but don’t make the NCAA.
