Here's a VERY uncomfortable question that many media folks will avoid . . .

for those media people that think the committee got it right . . . and that a hyper-subjective "best four" philosophy is the the way to go . . .
Do they all think Washington is better than Gaeorgia? Really? We all know they don't. Less than 24 hours ago they were certain that Ga was better . . . but apparently a 3 point loss to Bama was enough to convince them otherwise (not really). Are we really supposed to think they believe so now? Of course not. They MUST maintain that they do in order to make this "best four" thing float, but in reality, they know that there simply isn't enough plausible deniability to make that float, so they have to swallow reality and put Washington in b/c, well, Washington is more deserving, and Ga missed their chance (whether they're better or not notwithstanding).
However, they believe they DO have enough plausible deniability to make the Bama/FSU thing float, and so they do what they want with that one, but then claim it's all about "Best four." But it's not. If it was best four, most would vote Georgia and Ohio State in there.

I agree with you completely - 72 hours ago everyone thought Oregon was 10pts better than Wash and UGA was clearly #1. So the #5 team was -10 vs. #3, what would UGA have been. If UGA and WASH played 10 times, UGA would win 7/8 times

Oregon is never better than anyone in a big game. That just never happens

What's that got to do with anything?
The problem here is this. They think Bama is better than FSU, so they put Bama in and cite "best" rather than most deserving as the standard. Fine. I disagree with that philosophy, but if that's what they're after, then it is what it is.
But then, they put a team (Wash) in there over UGA, when we all know darn well they don't think Washington is better than Ga. In the end, they recognize Washington is more deserving and are applying that in that case, but the "best" thing in the Bama/FSU case. Inconsistent.
They problably don't think FSU is better than GA but that doesn't have anything to do with it.

Well, it kind of points out their lying and hypocrisy, which undermines their legitimacy and any other kind of argument they try to make.

I can't say for sure but I think what they might have done is similar to what they will do next year when the playoffs expand. Next year, the first six slots will go to the 6 highest ranked conferences and their champions. IMO, I think they felt the ACC was 5th among the Power 5 conferences this year and they went with the conference champions from the other 4. In their minds, they would argue this is less subjective which is certainly debatable, but gives them a defensible rationale since this is exactly how they will be doing it going forward.
Who knows for sure; we can speculate all we want and never really get to the bottom of it.

if it's truly "4 best", yes, those are the four imo. Then TX, OSU, and probably ORE before FSU. Different story with Travis obviously. The committee makes decision inconsistently

what makes you think UGA is a really good team?

Missouri is their only good win
Ohio state lost to Michigan (the current #1) team by 6 and were totally booted from any discussions.

Next year is a whole new set of problems we can get twisted about in the 12 team format, but as far as this year, it's hilarious watching UGA and FSU cry like little girls as well as all the apologists like LBB.
