Yep, if this continues it will kill CFB for a large number of folks. If UNLV didn’t live up to their agreement then cut the kid some slack but if they did he should be a leper (but won’t be for some win at all cost programs).

..as far as I know. The Miami QB that left Miami, transferred to Florida, then left when it turned out their collective couldn't come up with the NIL money his contract called for was the other.
He's now far down the be ch at Georgia with no NIL value. The market took care of that one. He would have been smarter to stay at Miami.

Poor play, no increase in pay. Look at his stats. Will schools start firing players for lack of performance? It works both ways.

Are you an 18yr old entitled brat that thinks people should be given everything for free by the govt? You believe that student loans should be washed away by taxpayers money. Every student athlete on schollie makes well over $100k annually even without NIL. $100k more than any paying student that actually earned their place academically at institutions vs being given lowered standards in a large percentage of the cases. Plus all student athletes are given a monthly stipend from school which Clemson pays around $540 and Coots pay $630. Stipend is free money to use as they want but was initially intended for players to pay for parents to visit to see them play or to use so the student could afford to travel home for visiting family.
Whether you think so or not, the NIL and portal (tampering) is ruining the fundamental basics and spirit that college sports were founded upon. College sports were never supposed to be pay for play. I think most FBS schools will have to break away from the 30-40 schools because they will never be able to afford the expected $22mil player budget. When that happens, I will find a team to pull for if my Tigers don't follow because I hate professional sports.

It sure sounds like it.

No one is being exploited. They accepted a scholarship to play football with NFL aspirations. Try that lame ### excuse on someone else. Lots of high school athletes would kill for a scholarship to play college ball.

While preventing them from getting fair market value. That's the textbook definition of "exploitation".
That's why the courts stopped it, and why the NCAA is in the hook for billions of dollars for having those rules.

Once again. They knew the rules when they signed the LOI. It's not like they signed and then the NCAA said sorry but you can't make money off yourself. Nobody forced them to play football.

The players have the talent that creates the billions of dollars in revenue. The only marketplace for that talent is the NCAA. Just because they know that they are being taken advantage of doesn't mean they are not being exploited.

Bluffton Orangeman said, "Are you one of those anti-freedom people that preferred the old NCAA plantation system?"
Yes, they got an education and at Clemson, the cost of the education, stipends, nutrition and medical benefits along with other perks, resumted in the scholarship players making more per year than the average income in the state of SC.

Shut up old man.
It’s not 1948 anymore.
Get with the times or shut your mouth and keep your old man mentality to yourself.
I’m so sick of hearing bs like this from the older generation.
Get with the time or go back to your rocking chair and complain to the ol ball and chain bc I promise you that’s the only person who cares to hear it.

Bluffton,
I agree with the movement towards players reaping some of the rewards in a very lucrative sports. And perhaps in five years we will see some kind of equitable relationship between players and teams and universities. But those relationship need to be mutual in nature.
Right now there are mistakes and missteps and growing pains in the process that are difficult to watch. And if players can quit on their team just because they are unhappy with the compensation that they agreed upon, then THAT could deeply damage college football. Even pro football doesn't allow for this. This latest incident at UNLV is very worrying to me.

Colleges and the NCAA don't. That makes any current comparison apples to oranges.
Changes always create winners and losers. When the market decides, it always evens out over time. The businesses, schools, or other entities that embrace the changes tend to be the winners. Because...they usually are ahead of the change curve

Bluff,
I understand that the NCAA does not have these exemptions - yet. This is just one of the things that should have been foreseen, but were not. This is part of the process to which I am referring.
And of course market forces will be a driver in that process, but even a free market system has to be be somewhat regulated to ensure the benefits of competition. And human regulations can help individuals - players, teams, universities, the game - from getting too badly damaged by the dynamic changes that will occur in this process.

There is no such thing as tampering. The NCAA rules again at it are what is actually illegal.
They violate the Sherman Antitrust Act.
It's ignorant to use the term.

The Big 4 pro sports do.
Congress has shown no interest in granting one. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) tried a d couldn't even get his bill out if committee.
It may change next year when colleges can give the athletes direct pay, or maybe not.
Time will tell.

Not only can you poach them from the portal for next year, you can now just bribe them to quit the week before you play their team. And that will then affect 10s of millions of dollars in now-legal sports betting action. Gee, how could this possibly be corrupt?

Everything is changing for the worse. I detest woke Nascar. Enjoy watching the old races on YouTube....races from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Will never watch another from nowadays. Don't like what is happening in football. It's all commercial and technology now. Yes, Tennessee will have money to compete. Pilot is throwing 400 million to UT for their name to be printed on the grass and to have a section in the concourse. So, it's all commercialism and buying players. Yes, the players have made universities rich. Also, coaches have astronomical salaries due to what players accomplish.
I remember back in the 90's talking to UT football players and they told me if I bought them a t-shirt it would get them in trouble which was ridiculous. We need a happy median for coaches and players. Everything is past the point of no return it seems as it is with the government in Sodom (Washington).

What will those people do soon?
