Akinkunmi with CB to OU

Looking like Edwin and Aminkunmi both going elsewhere. After a good OL class last year, we’ve just about been shut out this year.
To maintain good roster management, we need to bring in 3-4 OL a year. I have a hard time buying the argument about all the guys but 1 coming back next year when Eason can bring in top DL each year.

So a roster that will probably be over the # of 85

again because guys return for free Covid years and you think we should bring in more than what we have spots for? I prefer to let the coaches mange the roster. Unless guys leave that aren’t expected then anybody over 1 scholly will be a spot from another position. More concerned about LB because of early unexpected departures there the last few years + 2 guys potentially leaving early this year. That is where we are thin, not OL.

Totally agree about LB's. We will need to look at the portal for a LB and also DE in IMO.
Howeever, I am concerned about OL. While we list 25 OL on the roster, we actually only have 14 true scholarship guys and we lose at least one of those this year.
There is a reason the staff offered so many guys. If we don't bring some guys in, 2 years from now will be a challenge.

If there was a year to start diving into the portal, sounds like this off-season is going to be it.
Recruiting is the lifeblood of the program one way (traditional) or another (TP). Hopefully, we can be competitive in the TP this year without having to go the messy route (bidding wars).
It's going to be an interesting offseason.

Walk-ons given scholies to play special teams (holder, long snapper)scholarship given to the 7th gd string QB who happens to be a 6th year grad asst transfer—that was essentially an F U to the "use the TP crowd". 1or 2 spots can be easily be (with a modicum of resourcefulness)tweaked to get under the #, rhetorical semantics, reminds me of left screaming about a govt shutdown or the possibility of cutting (by fractions) the annual rate of spending growth in reference to anything other than defense-

is probably less often because its probably usually someone already on the roster. That said, we have been very consistent. I can't remember the last time we've had an issue with either and it's an extremely important role that can be easily overlooked. Not having a consistent K this year shows how that plays a part into every decision and playcall once you cross over to the opponents side of the field and eventually effects game management in general. The other walkon schollies should truly be single year if something is left over once other options are explored but if you have an opening after spring ball its typically going to be at the bottom of the roster and no one from somewhere else is going to want that for 1 year

I love fans who use blanket statements like "bring in 3-4 OLs per year" as if it were fact. We have a target number of OL spots and recruit to that number (I believe it is 16 spots). Bringing in four per year when most OL RS, would mean 20 spots so another position would be thin.

Clemson’s OL numbers are lower under Dabo than most D1 programs. Most D1 programs carry 18-20. That’s an easily researched fact. Remember, Google is your friend!

Also, can you please share your data, and do you know if you’re counting scholarship players who actually have a chance to play?

Our current OL line count of scholarhsip players is 13. Does not included walk-ons or preferred walk ons offered after enrolling or last minute throw ins.
Dabo said we like to have 10 plug and play OL guys. The injury brought us down to 9 but still should be ok this year. We need to sign at least 3 this year. The coaches know this and have a plan. That's why they threw out the offers they did...

Right. So you looked at most other rosters and counted every OL listed.

We have 21 OL which is at least as many or even more than most others.
The last 4 losses were almost entirely on us, not the OL.

We actually have 25 on the roster. Only 13 that were targeted offers. The other 12 are walkons, preferred walkons, or last minute throw in offers. Try and keep up...

When you counted all the (5) other “most” P5 teams, you went to the teams site and counted the OL on their roster which includes walk-on etc.
When you counted ours, you counted only scholarships players, and of course you’re all over the place with that too.
So yeah, when you count TOTAL OL on those other teams, then you should count TOTAL OL on our roster too.
Maybe you should try to keep up buddy?
By the way, are you making a point here?

you're missing Putnam and Linthicum - there are 15

on scholarship. Unless there has been a change in philosophy to have more than 15 on scholarship which hasn't been indicated tom my knowledge then we lose Putnam and have 1 committment. The reason we were recruiting 3 is because they have to recruit as if COVID year didn't happen and those other guys aren't returning but Parks is coming back and Mayes is likely coming back because he is playing and has eligibility left. I do expect someone to leave but they can all return. I expect them to take 1 more HS not 2 at this point or see if they need any TPs to get to 15 if post signing day things are under 15. Might be one older guy to leave based on where he will be on depth chart for final year and has his degree. And there are a couple of younger guys who may decide to transfer but until that happens Dabo can't recruit a replacement. For now they have to assume those guys are returning unless they have privately indicated something to him.

Going to take a coach we have not had as OL coach at Clemson to build a Georgia Alabama Ohio State Michigan type O Line. Shawn Elliott HC of Georgia State could do it or HC of Arkansas could do it. There may be others I’m not aware of. I believe Eric McClain had the personality for it. Takes a highly motivated outspoken guy.

I hear what you are saying but I don't think Austin is going anywhere, at least this year. We do have some talent on schlarship now at OL too.
I really like Alex Atkins at FSU but all indications are he is headed for a head coaching job at seasons end. Another name to watch is Sam Pittman. Arkansas tends to be impatient.
I'm sure Kirby would love to bring him back as OC or in some capaciy. Wouldn't mind him at CU as OL coach if an opportunity ever opened up.

Have we ever really had a dominant O-Line since the 80’s. We have had good but not great units for as long as I can remember. Dang shame with the talent we currently have in the RB room.
