Small victory for me.

Mar 8, 2013, 1:03 PM

I finally paid off my main credit card. All remaining credit balances are on 0% interest from promotional purchases or balance transfers and all can & will be paid off before promotional periods end.

I know in sharing this information an unforeseen expense is going to pop up and derail it once again, but it's nice to finally weather through the multiple car expenses, last minute flights and travels, and medical costs and see a 0 again.

Now I can start saving for fun money...like Pasadena...

It's a race between my wife and I which one will finish

paying off debt quickest (what'd you think I was saying).

My wife will probably win considering I picked up her car issues, Cole's issues, a couple sudden flights when her mom passed away and when her niece was born. It's amazing how those things can really throw a wrench in your budgeting.

Anna and I are weird with our financing, we're very open and honest with it, but we aren't joined together like most married couples. I pay for everything except the electric bill, she pays for that. Going to be interesting to see what'll happen now that she has a new job making double her old one, I'm hoping I get to shed some expenses onto her.

that Anna pays for all of the food, so that's a large expense. Even when going out she pays.

Odds are when you're married you'll have a joint account.

checking account, but we never use it. So there!

I don't know, we always thought we'd do it but never have, and don't feel the need to now.

We both have our own incomes and can spend the money how we please. Anna is more of a saver and I'm more of a spender, probably would cause more issues if the money was in the same pot, lol.

Mar 8, 2013, 3:05 PM

idk. that's what we did when we first moved in together. all the "bills/groceries/eating out/stuff we do together" comes out of the joint. We each have our own accounts for other stuff.

I had more debt coming in and I pay for that (for a few more months anyway until I can tell SCSLC to suck it!) Also, if my family ever thought that K's money was 'my' money, they'd be after me all the time. So, we keep some stuff separate.

Of course, it's more complicated since we have two households. Blah!

My dream is to finish paying off the little I now owe and get my i-phone and hotspot so I can be a full-fledged lunger! Or, put a septic tank at the cabin I've been working on for six years. Hmmm?

You're right, something major will break down or wear out first.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No kids right now, I'm sure finances suck #### when they

Mar 8, 2013, 1:30 PM

come around. Not going to worry about that for a few more years thankfully.

Is there even a good number to have saved up for kid time? Like a $50,000 nest egg per kid?

The rule of thumb is

Mar 8, 2013, 1:31 PM

don't financially plan for kids or you will never have them, just have them. If you are adopting, then save up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

more like enough to pay hospital and doctor when baby

Mar 8, 2013, 1:44 PM [ in reply to No kids right now, I'm sure finances suck #### when they ]

comes. $50,000 is laughable to me, but it would have been allsome.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What do you mean by laughable?

Mar 8, 2013, 2:00 PM

Laughable in that you could never save up that much or laughable that a kid only costs 50k?

I've always set savings goals for myself that I have to reach before I'll undertake a new expense. I'd like to do the same with kids.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually both, kids will cost more than 50k and I would

Mar 8, 2013, 2:10 PM

never have had kids if I needed to save 50gs before having one. For us, it was about having a kid/kids when we were mature enough and ready. Financially ready plays a part, but wasn't the deciding factor. That is just us though, I commend anyone who could save 50k just to have a kid. I mean, I have retirement and stuff if I HAD TO come up with a ton of money, but not 50k cash at hand.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I get that and know they cost more than 50k. I guess I was

Mar 8, 2013, 2:13 PM

just trying to see if there was a number that you wish you had when you FIRST had a kid. Not even saying to save up to that point and then have a kid, was merely asking a question.

Or just plan on never having them...

Mar 8, 2013, 2:10 PM [ in reply to What do you mean by laughable? ]

Between all the stuff I want to do to my house and the boats/cars I want, I just can't see myself ever being able to afford kids. I think I'd much rather have that 22' Donzi Classic with a 496 over a son or daughter.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And that is perfectly acceptable for alot of people. The

Mar 8, 2013, 2:11 PM

problem is when people would rather have the 22' Donzi Classic with a 496 but still have kids and neglect or run off on their kids for other things.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I know I've been lucky
