Dustin Fry and Keith Jennings were 2 of his Tigers that made the NFL.

I knew McKissick and his grandson. I played football at Berkeley, wrestled Berkeley but wrestled summer league with Sville. He was genuine but expected the best and would tell you. 10yrs after I graduated Clemson, Keith Jennings retired from NFL and came to work for me as a salesman. He was a giant grown man at that point. He let me put on one of his NFL rings and it was huge. I couldn't put 2 fingers in it but my fiance did. Pretty funny! He was nice guy but was looking for hobby not a job.

"recruited" a lot of area talent to come to Summerville and play for the Green Wave. I lived in the area for five years back in the late 70's to 1982. Summerville football was a local religion.

You ever play the old George Miler Country Club golf course? I played a many

a round there back in the day. It was the second course I ever broke 80 on, shooting a 77 there, the very next day AFTER I had shot my first ever sub 80 round, a 78, at Berkeley Country Club outside Moncks Corner. Those were (*sigh*) the good old days, at least as far as golf was concerned.

Golf back then was a strange game for me. I suspect the progression for most was about the same. If you played a lot, you would average about the same score for a few weeks. Then suddenly, the scores would drop, almost TEN STROKES. And, that would be your new average for a few months. Then, suddenly, seemingly, ANOTHER TEN STROKE drop.

I actually broke 100 for the first time on a day when, had I not completely choked on the green on the last hole, I would also have broken NINETY. I three putted from ten feet to shoot an even 90 at the old King's Grant on the Ashley course, which I think no longer exists? That was the first ten stroke improvement, from 100 to 90. Then 90 to 80, but never really got all the way down to 70, at least not for an average. A six handicap was the best I ever managed, but was really a card carrying 8-10 for a period of about ten years, before back problems began to intrude. I sure do miss the game.

I've played miler hundreds of times. I believe it is called the country club of Summerville now. Last I played was a few years ago and it was still in decent shape for a cheap round.

We played them my senior year, they were undefeated

We won 7-0 for our first of 2 wins that year. Someone had taken some Super 8 film of them that the coaches showed us of their previous game. Our coach had picked up the fact that their primary offense was the QB run and showed us the main 2 plays. If the QB took the snap and slid down the line he was going off tackle. If he took the snap and did a reverse pivot he was going around the end. Our LBs and safeties would immediately head for the right place at full speed.

About the middle of the 3rd quarter he did the reverse pivot and when he got to the outside all he saw were 3 of our guys. His expression was like how do they get so many guys out here?

He was the ONLY head coach to win 600 games AT ANY LEVEL.

I grew up on Johns Island in the 60s and 70s and he was a legend then. I had long since moved away and was amazed when I saw he retired in 2014. I was surprised he was still alive, much less still coaching.

I was fortunate to play for the man in'79 and '80. Great teams. He did expect the best out of you and it helped create a lot of men to succeed in life. He would rail on you until you got it right and would then praise your efforts once it clicked. Great man! And I was not a starter! I played behind Jimmy Harrell who went to Georgia.
