Simple question: How many seasons did it take for SOS to win

Nov 25, 2012, 5:35 PM

8+ games at USuC?

Answer: In his 6th season (6 years. 6. SIX) he won 9. Last year he won 11 in his 7th season. They can win 11 again this year if they win the bowl.

Point is that his success was not instant and took time. In fact in 2009 it was bad here in Cootlumbia for SOS because everyone was saying if he lost to Clemson he would probably be gone.

Dabo is in his 4th season. He has built an offense that is very good but played its worst game of the season last night where our receivers dropped ball after ball in their hands. I hate it but that is the truth. Even with USuC's rush we hurt ourselves where balls should have been caught to keep drives alive and moving.

He is building a D with young players who we are platooning in and out--pointing to competition and the opportunity for these freshmen and sophomores to get better. Our greatest need is our secondary and we need to go JUCO there until we can work that out.

We should pull in a good haul of recruits this coming year to also help us out. Bear Bryant said recruiting is one of the most important things of building and maintaining a good football team. We need more talent for our D. We need to continue to help our O out.

We have an opportunity to win 11 games by wining a bowl game. Just like in 1987 when we lost to USuC we were able to go out and beat Penn State in the Citrus Bowl (and go to 10-2) and set up a great season in 1988.

The sky is not falling. It hurts to lose to our rival 4 years in a row. IT HURTS. I HATE LOSING! HATE IT. It hurts to be in a crappy conference and to be uncertain about our conference. I hate the weak ACC! Hate it!

But I know this, Clemson is not as bad as many or you are making us out to be. We beat all the team we were supposed to beat for the first time in 20 years. That is huge. Yes we lost 2 big ones but we also got the job done on the other end--once again--something not done in 20+ years.

And at least now Clemson fans have a burning desire to win at the highest level--which could not be said of our fan base in the TB years just accepting our place in the ACC we never won as we beat USuC. Now we want more. We want the top of the national pole and we want to beat the Coots. That is good to have that desire. It is what fuels competition and means we will strive harder to get what we want.

4 years in--if we can win the coming bowl, recruit well, open the season with a win over UGA, and continue our domination of the ACC--where will this program be going into WB in 2013 with an improved D and a better day on offense?

Always loyal!

You left out one important thing.

It took a coach that was already a Legend and recruited on his name 6 years at USuC. Dabo is a first time head coach and has been making his name to recruit off of..

Everything else was dead on.

The time comparison between SOS and Dabo is like apples and oranges. Dabo inherited a much better team than SOS...Dabo was actually part of building and coaching that team. He took Bowden's team and added some different leadership. Spiller,...others and good facilities were in place. Holtz left the gamecocks in very poor shape and during his time went 0-21 or something like that. So...we no where in the same shape as the coots. Also...we've had solid studs on our team...some are still in the NFL (Whitehurst, Spiller, Adams, Eason, and more) forever. We've almost never been a complete basket case rebuilding program that should take many years. Other than maybe when Tommy West left us and Bowden came we were like 2-9.

Whatever, ND was 6-6 in 2009.

Why are we comparing ourselves to Sukolina?
