Should Justyn Ross have come back for his Sr year?

He could have been a first rounder if he played a healthy season with improved QB play.

I wish him the best, BUT a great senior season without injury would have made him a first rounder. Most of the time injury history keeps players out of the first round, or two. Too risky for the team.
Go Justyn! Pulling for you and your family….

I think he did right. That’s a serious injury for a young man. Horrible QB PLAY THIS SEASON hurt him bad for the draft. He’s a God fearing man and I’ve loved him since day one. I hope he stays healthy and he will be a scary threat in the NFL

The only mistake Justyn made was agreeing to play slot when the coaching staff idiotically asked him to move there out of necessity….Ross is a boundary WR and will always be one.

Good call out regarding slot as that was not a fit for him. Also think the QB and offensive line play hurt, but don’t believe he was fully committed to prep like some our past WR standouts were. He had his share of drops, etc. Hard to say how much the injury impacted him, but nonetheless wish him all the best.

Again for all the talk of genius coaching for the Clemson Tiger Offense, there has been very little on display since TL16 was under respected by Bama Defense in 2018 championship game. Tnet posters that are saying Ross had no shot with DJ at QB are 100% right. Hopefully with Streeter and new TE coach on board, Dabo will stay in the background, and RB's and Cade Klubnik will bring success in 2022.
But there is no way Ross could hang around this year with the chance that Dabo would start DJ for another 4-5 games. The NFL interest in Clemson players dropped significantly this year. Hopefully, the Clemson D and RB's change all that in the 2023 draft. I like their chances!
Pulling hard for J. Ross! Freebird has to fly!

At this point, he might not get anything. There’s a round and a half left and he’s still available.
It’s pretty well accepted that if you aren’t a first or second rounder, you come back. Justyn didn’t do anything this year to prove his worth, his health, or his confidence.

to be there, but he had one amazing game against Bama and that may have skewed a lot of perceptions of his draft value. When he was healthy he was never all that consistent, say like a Tee Higgins or a Mike Williams. His burst off the line and ability to separate were astounding, and he made some amazing circus catches at times, but he was never was able to put it all together and should have come back for another year. Certainly his production this year did not warrant a high draft grade, but he had a lot of work to do to become a first rounder had he stayed.

Higgins and Williams. Not really from the same mold in my book, and not sure he possesses the straight line speed to be a consistent deep threat or the wiggle needed to pick up yards after catch or get open underneath. Not sure exactly where he fits in.

He should be able to make a practice squad or get a free agent deal, the raw talent is there, but a lot of things out of his control slowed his development. I was hoping he would come back and have an Amari rogers kind of year.

I agree, I am just saying he was not a first rounder. he flashed it in the 2018 tile game because he stepped up when it mattered, but that was it. He needed an Amari Rogers kind of season for that, and well...

Yes 100%. I said it when he announced it was a mistake but it’s his to make and I wish him nothing but the best. I think by his body language said a lot for the situation this year. He didn’t look like the same playmaker nor did he seem to have the same drive from his freshman year with Trevor. I could be wrong but I don’t think he and DJ meshed for whatever reason.

He would be a really wealthy man as a TE. He is & has always been a tough kid who blocked well. He would be a great possession TE in the NFL in my opinion.

Hopefully he’ll be reunited with TL and ETN today. Having NO passing game last year did him no favors in this years draft.

He didn't need to have a "spectacular" year tho...

He just needed a better chance to show his capabilities. He is confident he's the same player he once was projected as. He didn't get a chance to prove it in 2021. He only caught passes in 5 games, and then didn't catch any after Syracuse in the middle of October. The stress fracture in his foot shut him down.
In my opinion he could have greatly increased his guaranteed money if he came back. Of course it's a risk, but that's the case for every player who comes back.
He took a huge chance by coming out early. Yeah, he'll go somewhere late but the guaranteed money is the issue.
I do think he should be able to show it and ultimately get that life-changing deal, but then too you never know what could happen anytime a player steps on a football field. It's basically a two-edged sword, especially as far as that initial guaranteed contract.

No.
This could end up working out for him. If he shows out, like I expect him to, he’ll be off his rookie contract early and will be able to demand a ton of money.
I believe Ross has Mike Williams and Tre Higgins potential. He was forced to play out of position in year 2, then he missed year 3, and was forced to play out of position again in year 4 (and got hurt again).
Ross is a field WR like Mike and Tee. And he was so much further ahead than them as a freshman. He was WR1 potential at the next level. I’m just hoping that Jaguars are smart enough to pick him.

I thought coming back for one more year would greatly benefit him. Regardless of the QB he did not look the same after being out for such a long time which is understandable.

There are very few great WR's with poor QB's. There are very good WR's in the Hall of Fame due to playing with a great QB. And there are great WR's who had average careers due to playing with average QBs.

The good news is that if he doesn’t get picked, his agent will be hearing from a bunch of teams today regarding UDFA signing and he can pick his destination.

If my memory is correct, Tua was drafted number 5 and Tua did not play any after his injury. So the draft is a crapshoot. I don’t know the correct answer for Justyn. Prayers for him that everything works out because he has worked hard to get healthy.

Wait, didn’t the NCAA amend the rules to where if a player had a year of eligibility left, and didn’t get drafted, they could return to College and play w/o penalty. Of course it being NIL era, I would be a bit surprised if he hasn’t already contemplated a return. If I was JR I’d comeback for one more year.

Sounds like he got some bad advice about where he would be drafted seeing that he was not selected out of 7 rounds and 262 players. Miserable passing attack, injury, and playing out of position did not help but all that information was already well understood. If he thinks that DJ was going to hamper his development if he came back then he should have gone into the portal like Ladson to get a full injury free year in somewhere and prove himself. He's like all the other free agents at this point - invited to camp and then likely cut prior to the season or on a practice squad. The potential for a big payday has now passed him by.

All those things and I think some really not good pro day numbers (namely 40 time) hurt him. I really think that is what hurt him most honestly. He was still being talked about as a mid round draft pick (based on potential and athleticism) until the Clemson Pro day where he changed alot of people's minds about the athleticism part and not in a good way.
