FOLKS, WITH THE BUSY WORLD WE LIVE IN TODAY; LET'S NOT FORGET THAT 80 YEARS AGO DAY, JAPAN SURRENDERED & WW2 COMBAT ENDED WITH PAPERS SIGNED ON USS "BIG MO" IN SEPT 1945.
AS A RETIRED MILITARY OFFICER (PILOT), I OWE MY FREEDOM TO THE MEN THAT DIED & WERE WOUNDED IN WW2. WE (I) CAN NEVER REPAY THAT DEBT.
MAY GOD BLESS THESE PATRIOTS & THEIR FAMILES.

One fact that puts the youth of our nation in perspective…it’s 80 years since the end of wwii, and the end of wwii was only 80 years after the end of the civil war…which was only 82 years after the revolution…

A few months ago, one of my sons convinced me to research my 4 uncles WW II services, and I wish I had done that many years ago while 3 of them were still alive. Those 3 only suffered wounds and serious injuries, and the 4th made the supreme sacrifice.
My mother's oldest brother was in the Navy and was badly burned by an explosion on Saipan. His injury happened several months after the battle. He was an electrician and was wiring facilities for transforming the island into a US military base.
Another brother was in the Army Corps of Engineers and moved across Europe in early 1945. His battalion built and maintained roads and bridges, cleared minefields, participated The Battle of the Bulge, and handled German POWs near the war's end. It received a Presidential Citation for erecting the 1/3 mile long bridge across the Rhine River at Wallach, Germany in only 72 hours while under enemy fire. He was wounded in the hip but recovered to continue his duties.
The other brother was in the Army and the real hero. He was wounded in 2 different battles in North Africa and the 3rd time in Sicily. He refused to go home as the rules required. He crossed over the English Channel to Normandy 5 days after D Day and was killed at St. Lo, France on July 12, 1944.
My father's brother was a Marine and fought in the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. He was wounded on Saipan and Iwo Jima.
The 3 surviving uncles had good lives and families after the war, but none talked about their war experiences. My research findings have given me a real appreciation of my uncles and their fellow WW II soldiers. I wish I had the interest to ask questions many years ago.
I am sharing my research with family members, and my cousins are learning things they never knew about their fathers.

...at a rapid pace. An 18 year old service member at that time is now 98. There are very few left.

You're right, some of us buy Jap vehicles, I did bc they are cheaper and are built to last. My 2018 CR V now has 76K miles and it has never been in a shop anywhere. As an X mechanic I service my Honda CR V every 5K miles and it's never had any mechanical problems ever to date. The Honda that I had prior to the one that I drive now, it had 122K miles without any mechanical failures to the date that I sold it to my sister-in-law 4 years ago and still no mechanical failures to date. With anything I'll purchase, I'm going to buy what I know I'm getting a good product...

A cousin from Brevard was lost Aug 4, 1944 as a tail gunner on the B17 Dry Gulcher when it caught fire over England on the way to bomb the rocket factory at Pennemunde. The nine other crew members were able to survive. Another cousin from G'ville jumped with the 82nd Airborne on D-day. Was captured two days later after landing near a sizeable enemy group and spent 9 months as a POW in Dresden.
