McCaffrey’s is 4.48. Why do some of you guys still say Will doesn’t have the speed? Does McCaffrey pick it up after 40 yards? I know he breaks more long ones but I remember Will breaking a lot of 40-50 yard runs for TD’s.

there is speed and there is footballs speed. Not sure about which Will's is. The one thing about him is he seems to seldom make guys miss and often gets hit flush when trying to avoid people. That needs to improve for NFL success. I expect him to be a nice versatile back and not an every down super star

This is why the 40 yd dash is deceiving. CM breaks out into open field he doesn’t get caught from behind the majority of the time. Ship rarely left guys in the dust. He always got walked down.
Love Ship and I still think he has a solid NFL career but he can’t touch CM with a 10 ft pole.

McCaffrey’s is 4.48. Why do some of you guys still say Will doesn’t have the speed? Does McCaffrey pick it up after 40 yards? I know he breaks more long ones but I remember Will breaking a lot of 40-50 yard runs for TD’s.
I think it was against Syracuse and it may have been more so the angle the defender took vs Will out running him straight up.
I'm thinking he has speed but it doesn't translate to the football field for whatever reason. I was expecting more like a Spiller game breaker and IMO he was closer to a Wayne Gallman/Rod McDowell impact.
Personally, I'm thinking he would've ran 4.5ish at the combine. He may hit the 4.4s at the Clemson pro day but I just never saw it on the football field.

CMC is a lot shiftier than Shipley and I think he has better vision. Not saying Will won’t do well in the NFL but those that say he’s CMC are saying that based mainly on their skin color.

I think McCafferey is definitely much stronger and probably a better athlete as well. He is special. Some say a top 10 rb all-time already.

Some guys take more hits, where as some, are shifty and never seem to get hit straight on…. I fee CM, is the latter, quick and shifty, doesn’t take hits and can get going quick (acceleration). I love ship and he is a great athelete, just not elite for NFL like CM.
The hole seems to close. Quicker for Ship….. with him all the best and hope to see him have impact somewhere on Sundays

Shipley is what you would call a serviceable RB.
He would be capable of stepping in and playing for a team that has been decimated at that position and perform as any average RB in the league.
Not to take anything away from the guy because he busted his ### at Clemson and performed admirably. He has my utmost respect for his play here.
The best quality He has is his grit and dogged determination.
Christian McCaffery on the other hand is in a whole different stratosphere.
He has outperformed my expectations and it will be interesting to see if he can continue on his current pace.

I'm convinced that it's mental. Ship sees what he thinks is open, starts thinking about that next gear, and in that next gear he's fast but not durable & could be knocked down by a feather. And does. It's almost like his mindset is "oh no oh no gotta run so fast and win the race to the end zone!"
McCaffrey is next gear a few steps into his stride, but his next gear also allows him to cut, jump cut, change direction, absorb contact ... it's like he's expecting not to break away and is still ready for contact or a defender to change his course somehow.
If these guys were chess players, McCaffrey would win every time because he's thinking a few moves ahead. Ship seems like a guy who's very aggressive and gets tunnel vision for how he can put the other king in check, or how to pin his queen, and he's left himself open in the process.

Unless I missed something, Will chose not to run the 40 yd dash at the combine. So this 4.46 you speak of is fictional.

Because he gets ran down from behind 100% of the time. Long TDs are not Ean in shirts and T-shirt. He will make a little money, but I don't believe this guy is an NFL back. Just my opinion. I'm wrong every day about something, but it's my opinion.

Yeah, I don't think Ship runs in the 4.4's. Maybe hand-timed, but not electronic. I would guess he's a high 4.5's guy in an electronic timed 40. He's fast enough, but not a burner.

I agree with LesterWagner, CM is very strong. Fast and shifty but underneath it all he has a very solid and strong body.
I hope Shipley gets to this point, but he’s not there yet.

I hope, for his sake (because I think he's a great guy), I am wrong, but I just don't see him getting drafted until the late rounds, if at all. I know I am in the minority here. If he doesn't, I don't see him getting off the practice squad and eventually being cut.

Of folks in the league. It was pretty obvious to me that he played hurt all year long and wasn't able to perform at the level we expected. He is a much better athlete than people give him credit for and he isn't small.

Where and when does Ship have a 4.46 forty? No way he is that fast on a laser timed 40. ETN had a 4.45 at combine and he is a lot quicker and faster than Ship.

I'm thankful for what Will did for Clemson. He wasn't perfect, but not many are. Why does he have to be compared to Christian at all?
