UNC, NC State, Clemson, FSU, Miami UVA, VA Tech and GA Tech 8should be in Talks with Big12 as a single entity.
That group joining Big 12 creates a “ draw and geographic footprint expansion” that changes the money for the Big 12 by a very large amount, while eliminating the issues of UNC leaving NC St, UVA leaving Va Tech, and the SECs issue with adding a school in FL and SC. It also avoids the Research school designation required by the Big 10.
That group should leave the ACC and have an agreement to bargain in good faith as a single unit for a landing spot. Big 12 instantly becomes a front runner with “new” TV money available. The Big10 and SEC/ESPN will then be in the “pot” . One or both may climb out and negotiate.
SEC and Big10 will then be in a bad spot for a change.

That is not a bad idea actually. But it needs to be a package deal like that.***

Since there will only be SEC and Big10 that pulls away from NCAA for football, it would be a horrible idea. BIG12 is basically ACC with a better commissioner.

We might not have been in this position if we had had a better commissioner

That isn’t the objective of conference expansion.

Would not be garbage if the best 6-8 teams from the ACC were added and they cut a couple of their dead weight teams. The goal is a landing spot which pays top tier money. If that is the B12 so be it.

It's funny anyone even mentions Georgia Tech. They don't even carry their own city of Atlanta. Atlanta is 80 percent SEC country with Bulldog fans, 10 percent high school football fans and GT has the remaining 10 percent. It's laughable any conference would even want them.....even the basketball minded conference of the ACC.

Or be out loud by having the ACC and its members simply divvy up separate divisions for football based on program sizes and investments and skew our schedules to where these programs play each other more often, upping our weekly appeal and overall value.
Clemson, FSU, Louisville, Miami, UNC, NC State, Pitt, and Va Tech to start, then entice West Va as #9 there. The other nine would have their own football division. Add a 9th league game for additional media inventory that has lower division teams playing at upper division teams. With that guaranteed additional home game, the football powers could continue with an aggressive OOC schedule - also good for everyone in the league. The football schools in the upper division would split the enhanced media value among themselves since they're carrying the load, and the lower division maintain the status quo.
We could also only schedule six games in-division with two division cross-overs (H/A), plus the 9th, to keep some historical rivalries going and help pad upper division records for bowl eligibility.
There is an opportunity for the ACC largely as is prior to ESPN's 2026 'look in' deadline for the final decade of this deal.

Ga. Tech. academics is much better than most schools. That is the reason they are included.

I love our rivalry with them and was really astounded that the ACC actually sidelined that draw after this recent expansion. If we remained in the ACC in different competitive divisions I would hope they would be an annual crossover, like UNC and Duke, NC State / Wake, Va Tech / UVA, and others.

Have you looked to see what power FB teams are actually left in the big 12?
Here you go, I look them up. There is a few teams still left in that conference that if they made a serious attempt to make their FB programs really strong, adding some ACC teams to that conference could make some pretty elite FB teams that could be a serious threat to any conference...

The Big XII has no Alpha programs remaining with OK and TX leaving. Lots of depth and solid programs with good fan bases, yes, but no flag bearers really. That's going to cap their prospects in the long run.

This is correct. They don't draw ratings, so there's no reason for a network to give them a large TV deal.

I like the way you are thinking outside the box. But what becomes of our alliance with the PAC-2? We can’t just walk away from that sweetheart deal. 😉

What would be the point of going from one conference where we're 1 of the 2 marquee teams, to another conference where we're 1 of the 2 marquee teams? The ACC teams aren't ratings darlings outside of a few teams, and we all know that. The problem is, the Big 12 is even worse in that department (I'm sure someone will bring up Colorado last year, but that's an outlier based on ridiculous Prime hype and will fade soon). The whole point of this round of conference realignment is to consolidate the top programs(both on the field and in ratings) so that we get better matchups, which leads to higher ratings, and eventually leads to a larger TV contract. There would be no marquee matchups in this new conference outside of teams getting to play us and FSU. Do you think a network is going to pay much more than what they already are for that? I don't think 8 teams joining a conference of promoted G5 teams, and the PAC-12 leftovers moves the needle in the slightest, and if it did result in higher TV money, it would be short term since both the B1G and SEC have yet to negotiate new TV contracts with their recent additions, which will almost certainly create an even larger chasm between the leagues.
I get that some people are intrigued by the Big 12 because some have suggested that the SEC and B1G aren't expanding, but at best, it's a lateral move, and most likely, it's a downgrade to a conference that makes less than the ACC with their new TV deal. It's essentially a glorified G5 with patchwork TV deal, and no network. Not sure that's something Clemson and FSU would even entertain.

Why in the heck would we jump to a conference lower than the ACC already?! The Big 12 is a joke. Especially after losing its top two teams. That makes as much sense as a poop flavored lollipop. 🤣
