Serious question

May 14, 2012, 8:36 PM

I see a lot on here who really seem blatantly against a move to the big 12. Say we did get an offer, what is your reason to want to stay in the acc. For me if the big 12 wants us and they make a commitment to go to 14 teams by adding 4 more eastern schools. Its a no brainer we jump.

Do you seriously want to stay in the acc and let scar pass us by

Plyler makes a living telling folks what they want to hear.

Its called 'entertainment.' We are called an 'audience.'

Same with all the bloggers and ESPiN. You get points here because you entertain people not because you are accurate.

It sounds great - today. But that is the problem. How will

May 14, 2012, 9:38 PM

it sound 25 years from now. 25 years ago, if you said Miami, FSU, Clemson, Va Tech, Pitt, Ga Tech, would all be in the same conference, people would have all agreed it would be the toughest conference in America.

Where will the Big 12 be in 25 years? Kansas, Kansas At, Iowa St , Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, even Oklahoma State - those aren't exactly historically known football schools. Sure, they have had some success recently. But we have nothing in common with those schools. No rivalry, no hatred, No nothing. What happens when the Pac 12 looks to expand? - do they gobble up Texas and OU and leave everybody else scrambling?

Too many unknowns, too much travel, too short term thinking.

one more thing, if FSU left and wanted to come back, the ACC

May 14, 2012, 9:47 PM

would probably take them back. You can beat your sweet #### if Clemson leaves the ACC - UNC et al will never let us back in the conference, ever. (see USC)

Ask yourself the same time frame questions about the ACC. Who cares what happened 25 years ago. If we maintain that we mentality (which a lot of people tend to) then its no wonder other teams are passing us by. Success today is more important than success 25 years ago. And if someone can question what any conference will be like in 25 years (I wonder if the ACC will still play football myself) then please tell me this week's winning lotto numbers.

You are definitely missing the point.***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Which would be....

May 14, 2012, 9:53 PM

we like to live in the past?

The Big 12 has had more success than the ACC more recently?

Enlighten me

And don't take this as antagonistic. I'm much more open minded than my posts make me seem :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are being short-sighted. Things change.

May 14, 2012, 9:59 PM

The teams in the ACC have been good before and at some point will be good again.

The teams in the Big XII have been bad before and at some point will be bad again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It sounds like a vicious cycle I know

May 14, 2012, 10:04 PM

But when do the SEC teams go back to their mediocrity? When will the PAC-12 and Big-10 teams get back to their superiority? The way things stand I think it will take much longer staying in a basketball-centric ACC to get back to being relevant. I would much prefer the SEC myself, but that is about as likely as ND joining the ACC.

I must admit though, I am in favor of a Big12 move as I am in Texas and the road games aren't quite as far for me :)

It wasn't that long ago that people were talking about a rematch of Ohio St. and Michigan in the NC game. Nor was it that long ago that an undefeated SEC champion was left out of the NC game.

Re: It sounds like a vicious cycle I know

May 14, 2012, 10:13 PM

I would love to see that again just to see ESecPN get off the SEC lovefest. But they will make sure that a 1 or 2 loss SEC team is NOT left out of NC talk ever again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The SEC is flying high now, but hasn't always, nor will

May 15, 2012, 1:03 PM

it always They been blessed with a few great coaches. They lucked up in having Tim Tebow and Cam Newton (those players don't come along every year) carry two teams on their backs. The SEC benefits from the misfortunes of FSU, Miami, Ohio St. Michigan, So. Cal.,Penn St.,Nebraska but this won't last forever. Oklahoma and Texas will eventually come around again.

This worm will turn, the SEC will gravitate backwards to more parity which will kill the SEC MNC run. It is a matter of when, not if.

As crazy as it sounds, a competive league seems to hurt your National perception as opposed to having one or two teams that dominate. The ACC just needs to have a couple teams step up and take over. I just hope we are one of the teams.

Re: Serious question

Every conference has a few good teams, some middle of the road and some dogs. We are no exception in the ACC. I contend that our good teams are all on the rise. CLEM, VT, FSU, MiA, Ga. Tech. They will all make some noise this year on the national landscape. Who is the pwer in the Big12...only 3 teams Tex, Okla, Okla St. Everybody else is middle of the road or less also. Its the same with the SEC too. If we win in the ACC in a 4 game playoff system and there are 3-4 nat'l relevant teams in the ACC then we will go to the playoffs. Don't look at other conferences with such and think they are any better than the ACC can and will be soon.
