Serious post re: Dabo.

As I have stated multiple times, Dabo must adjust with the times. This includes the portal, NIL, staffing, and recruiting philosophy/methods. I truly hope he can adapt because the last thing I want to see is another 20 years in the wilderness, like we had from the time Danny left until Dabo's rise.
And before I critique Dabo, let me say, heavy is the head that wears the crown. It is infinitely harder to stay at the top than to get to the top. It is human nature and it is why so few football programs have long-term, sustained success at the highest levels. Same is true in business, entertainment, etc.
But since the first Natty run I have noticed Dabo slowly getting away from the mindset that got him to the top. He has become snarky at times and stubborn at other times, even when the evidence in his face was undeniable (the portal being the most obvious example). He has also been tone deaf or said too much when he should have kept his peace (COVID, BLM). He's even flaunted his privilege (playing pick up games on NBA basketball courts).
If I could speak to Dabo I would just encourage him to take counsel in what the Bible says. "G-d opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." So important it is in the Bible 3 times. The humble Dabo that spoke of little ole Clemson and the ROY bus is the Dabo that can keep us at or near the top. The Dabo of "we ain't forgot how to coach, I know what's wrong" and "Oklahoma did call me about something else" is not the Dabo that is going to rally people to his cause.

Will they ever have a stretch where they win 13 games per year for 5-6 years? Maybe not, but hardly any team has done that, ever.
He does have a big off-season, that will help determine whether they get quickly back to the peak, or stall out somewhat.

He should change with the times, and he has. He's not a rookie coach with an us-against-the-world mentality, because times have changed.
What has he said so wrong about covid or blm?
Flaunting privilege by playing hoops on an NBA court?
Good grief.

yeah, I am confused about the NBA thing too.
I would connect that to...."he is playing around and not paying attention". Instead of it being a privilege thing.

It was when he was on vacation with his kids. During the summer.
I mean, I like me a guy that will burn it at both ends of the stick for sure. A HC in CFB has a pretty darned demanding job and I have no issue with a guy taking a vacation, nomesayin?
We are reaching into an invisible pot of negativity to be critical of CDS on this one.

Grab the new sweatshirt…no stains, crewneck, not hoodie.
He literally could have a truckload of free Nike gear, even the $150 overpriced shirts, and I’m sure MH Frank would outfit him for free, but he dresses like the average dad going outside to clean out the gutters.

"Humble" Dabo was the guy who made this (bad ###) answer in his introductory press conference: https://twitter.com/TigerCommenter/status/1467671082115256324
He's the guy who fired the OC on his first day. He brought in a DC that was under heavy criticism by Oklahoma. He promoted a high school coach with one year of coaching at an FCS level to save the offense.
He has always been stubborn in the sense that he believes his way is going to get the job done. He has been correct far more often than not. The guy has had unbelievable success and he didn't achieve that by listening to every fan with an opinion.
I say all this as someone who has criticisms of the insular coaching hires and recruiting strategy. But he knows what he is doing and has shown that he will make changes when necessary.

the idea. Had way too much to say about OSU and the # of games it played, right before we had to go play them ... with a team that had been aimless and distracted all year, as much a blm chapter as a football team. The original Dabo would not have done either of those things, imo. They lost their mojo, got completely beaten up, upon which Dabo called them his favorite team. Getting back to where we played WF and SC the way we did took an entire year, and I'm not sure we are really there yet.
That sounds harsh, but I'm all in with Dabo. He is still all the things we know him to be, and he can coach at Clemson for the next 20 years if it were up to me. But yes, we have gone through a 2 year period where he seemed to be taking a farewell tour.

tigernation into a tailspin.
A farewell tour for 2 years?
Boss, we entered the CFP last year and lost in the semis. Aimless, distracted BLM chapter as you describe was still better than all but 2-4 teams in college football.
We had a "down" year in 2021 and can still finish with 10 wins.
Ya'll MF are nuts.

ETN. It took maybe the best QB in CU history (tie with Watson) and the best RB in ACC history to keep us above average. This year was that team without Trevor and ETN.
I don't think you're MF nuts if you disagree. Maybe you think the OSU debacle didn't expose what had been happening all year and was about bad play calling. Maybe you just think being ranked 25th with 70 4*s and 5*s on the roster is a normal thing. I don't know. That's up to you.

Final 4 above average?
Reality is we win our bowl game and legit can finish top 15. Is that average?
We lose the bowl game and finish 9-4 we will finish unranked but barely.
This is what I'm talking about. Expectations are whack.
FWIW, OSU didn't expose "what had been happening all year". Those fuggers hung a 49 spot on us. We were GREAT defensively (with the exception of a shootout vs ND) all year until that game. It was an anomoly, and happened on a given night.

We've all said that. And yes, a 10 win season keeps an incredible streak going. All kudos to that. No, I don't think 15th is where this team should have ended up.
At the beginning of this year our oline said what some of us had been saying all last year, that they were getting physically whipped by much lesser talent. "We're going to get tough again", they said. So they admitted to what some got criticized for pointing out. But then they kept getting beat, until the final two games of this year. Hold that thought.
Halfway through the year an article quoted Dabo as challenging the coaching staff to lead better. You think? We have a QB who won't fog a mirror during a game, WR's that won't get open or block, and line that can't run on anyone not named SC State. It had been that way for 2 years. It took until half way through the year for Dabo to finally address what had clearly been a long term lack of leadership across the offensive staff.
So, back to the end of this year, how much of the second paragraph accounts for the improvement at the end? I don't know. But Dabo seemed to think that because CU is special and has special players - I will agree to that - we could just line up and the next Trevor would sidestep a missed block and find the one open receiver out of 5 for a TD. OSU didn't read that s.c.r.i.p.t, and without Trevor we couldn't beat any decent team. It wasn't "losing a couple of games."
So, yes, it seems that Dabo put some things on cruise control for a couple of years, letting some deficiencies fester rather than addressing them.
I am not an MFer for thinking this. You are not an MFer if you disagree.
Edit: the bot doesn't like the word for 'directions and dialogue for a scene'.
