Serious hypothetical question for the portal/NIL whiners...

Say you love your company and boss, but you find out you're getting underpaid by about $20k.
Do you just stay out of loyalty, or do you start looking at open positions elsewhere? You know you'll miss your boss and co-workers if you leave, and will have to work harder the first few years, but can you justify staying while being underpaid?
That's where college football is right now. Don't like it and miss the good ole days?....fine, but no need to attack the players. They're just weighing their options like we all do.
Would you attack a co-worker in that situation for leaving for more money by saying, "He wasn't loyal. I miss the old days when the company and workers were loyal to each other"?

The two things are not even comparable. At least at this point one is an employee and one is a student athlete ( 😂) Most people know that they will have to pay money in order to get an education and prepare themselves for whatever they choose to do in life. Now that may change and the players will learn a hard lesson in life and they will start paying taxes and be fired when they are not producing. Again there is no comparison! Maybe the players should have to sign and live with a contract!

Yes with salary I believe you should have to pay taxes, housing, the education, food and the extra help you receive tutoring. Seems fair!

Who is their employer? The schools don't pay them.

Would you let them go to a company that chews up people and and lets them go in a second ?
Would you let them go to a company that you knew would just use them
If you are offered $200,000 more a year and they fire you in a month is that a good deal ?
Life has many avenues

Very common to ultimately regret leaving a job because the grass looked greener somewhere else.

Everyone has to make their own decisions. I've lost many employees who thought the grass was greener elsewhere, sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. I give the pros/cons and they make the decision. In the long run, it's more impactful to them than it is to me.

I have worked at places with a terrible culture based solely on the money. I have always regretted those choices.

you see companies train employees like maintenance techs or salesmen with little or no experience, pay them to take classes, and give them some OJT and develop them into the employee they want and need. The employee will stay with the company for a couple of years to get some experience and learn more. Then they will look around for other options and take one with a company that had no investment in them after the first companies had spent a lot of time and money on them with limited ROI.
That is basically what's happening with the transfer portal with players like Sam Hartman and Riley Leonard.

The schools do not pay NIL to the players, that is strictly forbidden by NCAA rules and guidelines. NIL is payed to the players from collectives and other third party sources. I'm positive that the schools not only know about the NIL deals, but probably direct the third parties as to who they are targeting so they know who to offer the money to. It is a collaborative effort at the least.
The only issue I have with NIL/Portal is how unregulated it is and that it leaves players open to tampering. Got a great QB who's on a marginal NIL deal? Have a third party contact them and tell them if they enter the portal and sign with my school I'll guarantee them a certain deal. The school's officially unaware of said deals and are just "lucky" to get picked by the player.
Last thing - I don't think NIL deals will continue to follow the path they currently are. How many top paid athletes have failed to live up to expectations? I think it'll eventually become a system where only proven players will get top $$ and high school recruits will have to prove themselves first before getting paid.
