I'm becoming more and more amused at Chris Wallace and Fox

Nov 7, 2012, 12:42 AM

News's insistance of when or if now Obama will move more to the "center" and join Republicans in a compromise on things like the budget, as though Obama is the problem, and the Republicans are anywhere near the center. Amazing.

M.Kelly was saying only Obama was being negative...

Nov 7, 2012, 12:45 AM

in his campaign and that somehow him winning meant more candidates were going to be negative now in their campaigns. That was better political comedy than anything Stewart and Colbert did on their live shows tonight.

Strong Stuff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, Deweather, especially considering they had Karl Rove

Nov 7, 2012, 12:47 AM

sitting at their table all evening. One of the masterminds behind negative campaigning as a way to do things. I found Kelly's comments to be pretty funny, too, like its the first she has ever seen of negative campaigning, and apparently some of the Fox panel figured out tonight the GOP seems to have a problem with minorities.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

his campaign was far more negative than Romney's***

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's debatable

Nov 7, 2012, 12:56 AM

Both went negative, and candidates have been negative for generations. What Megyn (sp) Kelly said was absurd.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm sure a statistical analysis could be done...

Nov 7, 2012, 1:10 AM

and I'm confident it would prove Obama's campaign was more negative than Romney's. Not that Romney didn't go on the attack, but challengers must attack. Do incumbents usually go this negative? I don't know. I think it was a good strategy given Obama's first term, but I also think it tarnished Obama a bit. The "Romney: Not one of Us" ad and the Lena Dunham ad had nothing to do with the hopeful tone of his 2008 campaign.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd be open to see that analysis.

Nov 7, 2012, 1:22 AM

Both had ads that were far more negative than positive, but to say only one side was negative and that it was some sort of new strategy that will be blamed for future negative ad campaigns is beyond absurd. You would have to agree with that.

Just saying there is a need for an analysis would mean you agree with that position.

Romney seemed to focus on a strategy of attacking Obama rather than providing new and consistent ideas. I think the shifting platform of Romney was an interesting strategy as it helped him get back into the race (first debate) but ultimately I think it kept him from connecting enough with people. He wasn't able to sell his vision on where to take the country, and instead appeared just to resort back to "I'm not obama."

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

maybe a more accurate description...

Nov 7, 2012, 1:25 AM

would be that Obama's negativity was mostly personal, while Romney's negativity was about Obama's campaign. That might just be because Obama is the incumbent, but Obama went "small" and Romney did not respond with big ideas.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would think that would be part of the analysis.

Nov 7, 2012, 1:29 AM

You might be right, but to me, a lie is a lie. And I saw both tell some HUGE lies. Both.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i actually don't think either intentionally lied...

Nov 7, 2012, 1:32 AM

if something is demonstrably false, it's too easy to demonstrate that fact.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you know something is false and still run with it...

Nov 7, 2012, 1:42 AM

I categorize that as an intentional lie. Negative campaigning is without a doubt effective and institutionalized, but I still despise it.

My main problem with its use, is that the information is usually clearly false and with just a little research one can easily find that out. Only, most don't do that and the campaigns know more times than not a person will see the information and decide if they believe it to be true or not. No research.

I wouldn't have a problem if the negative ads were filled with facts, but they almost always aren't. Or they twist a truth to such an extent that it becomes a lie. But it's effective and isn't going away.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seemed to me Romney's entire campaign was "Obama bad"

Nov 7, 2012, 1:08 AM [ in reply to his campaign was far more negative than Romney's*** ]

"Obama bad. Don't worry about me, Obama bad."

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

which didn't work...

Nov 7, 2012, 1:13 AM

but what did work was when Romney and Ryan talked policy, which they began to do towards the end of the campaign and especially during the debate in Denver.
