SEC pondering having its own play-off

since they could not get the play-offs in NCAA expanded. Seems odd for a league that has greatly benefited from the four team system.
IF the SEC did this what would you predict would be the results? Would that signal the end of the NCAA or would the plan fall flat on it's face? What Schools would line up to play an SEC Champion crowned through and 8 team SEC playoff? Even if it played through the national ranking system and culminated in that team going to the NCAA play-offs, it would be hard to argue that it was not the best team in the SEC at the end of the season.
I am just frustrated with the NCAA system that is so political and popular opinion oriented instead of focused on competition determining who is the best. Anything that threatens it's existence right now is fine by me.

The NCAA has nothing to do with the CFP. IMO, it is overdue for the Power 5 football teams to completely sever ties with the NCAA and set their own rules as they see fit. Why should an AD at Slippery Rock U be voting on D1 football rules in an NCAA committee? Ludicrous. It makes total sense for the $EC to saber rattle about their own playoff. They are controlling the narrative and will bend others to their will eventually (sadly). It’s all about leverage. The ACC has virtually none currently.

I don’t believe passed out on the couch in your front yard on a Tuesday morning qualifies as “pondering”.

The expanded playoff would have been of greater importance to other conferences. If course it would likely include more SEC teams. Maybe that's why it didn't pass. I doubt there is much chance of an SEC only playoff anytime soon. What I do see is the SEC continuing to expand. Add teams like Clemson, FSU, and NC. Get the conference to 20 or so teams then they may do their own thing.

As much as I hate it... I agree with you. The whole fabric of the NCAA is completely unraveling. Keep on punching Apollo. Go Tigers!!!

Conference is probably going to happen sooner rather than later, with the impact of NIL starting to be felt now. 32 is a good number for postseason bracket building.

The SEC is using this stunt as leverage.

It's the most powerful conf and will continue to be unless the Big 10 decides to expand (They could look West and raid the Pac- 12 imagine them adding Oregon and USC or they could look at the ACC and ask Clemson Florida St Miami etc)
The SEC managed to make a HUGE move by adding OU and Texas. They have the most power. I'm not sure what they do next. Will they expand and add more teams? It will be interesting to see how much they want to shake up College Football.
The ACC is in really bad shape. Our tv contracts don't end until 2036. We have no leverage or power.

If the SEC decides to take its football and go play all by theirselves, there might be backlash from the other Power 5 Conferences. What if they band together and refuse to play SEC schools in both regular season and playoff. This would isolate the SEC and tarnish their brand. The rest of the football world plays each other and the SEC plays with themselves. Pun intended

Your solution seems to be, the SEC refuses to play other Power 5 teams so the other Power 5 conferences should band together and refuse to play the SEC, as punishment for the SEC not playing them.
