Saw something I thought I would never see today. I have witnessed

a lot in nature during my life that you may only see on TV. I have seen the following
a Sparrow Hawk catch a bird right above my head while hunting a King Snake fighting another snake a wood duck fly into it's nest in a tree and a box a fox catch a rabbit while I was in the stand a turtle laying its eggs in a field over at my pond a Jack fish catch a bream a momma racoon and two little fur babies running under my stand Geese flying and perfectly silhouetted by a full moon a hawk swoop down and catch a squirrel in the field
However today was a first. I watched two squirrels playing in the trees and one fell about 25 feet and hitting the ground. I figured he/she was a goner. However, it immediately jumped up and climbed the nearest tree. It sat on a limb about ten feet above the ground for about five minutes before continuing it's climb. I was guessing the squirrel was shook up.
What are some neat things you have witnessed in nature?

Twice saw a bobcat get a squirrel in the tree right next to me at my same height level. Absolutely amazing experience.

As I was reading this I thought you witnessed all of this on one sit and was thinking wow what an eventful hunt. I have seen a squirrel fall about 15 feet one time and it acted like it was no big deal . Dropped a grunt one time out of a tree and it landing on top of a possum that was under my tree . I believe that it thought an eagle or something was grabbing it as it seemed to have a heart attack and play dead for a minute.

Saw a squirrel get a baby barn swallow out of the nest.

The next year the squirrel tried again and the swallows called its friends. They made a circular flight path and kept attacking the squirrel until the squirrel gave up and left.
Also saw ravens do much the same thing with a red tailed hawk to drive it away from their territory, and hawks doing the same thing with a golden eagle.

I saw something very similar to your second experience in my back yard once. We have hawks that nest in that area every year. One afternoon an owl came into the area and all afternoon several crows and both hawks took turns swooping at it and making a ruckus to chase it off. The owl just sat there for quite a while ignoring them until I suppose he just got tired of listening to them and left.

I once saw a perigrine falcon tak down a pigeon. BTW they eat everything but the wings. The falcon is the jet fighter of birdom. Amazing creatures

I have seen a puffin, a whale breaching, ridden an elephant in the rain down an extremely muddy path, a harmless black snake try to attack my mower, and a ton of beautiful landscapes throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Ireland, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales), Iceland, Mexico, and Thailand.

Just returned from Newfoundland. Near Elliston Newfoundland there are literally thousands of puffins you can see from just a few feet away. Very cool place.
Ate a puffin in Iceland. Do not recommend, unless you like hooded merganser.

Ha'karl was described as" the single worst, most disgusting and terrible tasting thing" he ever ate, by Anthony Bourdain. Ainsley Harriott described ha'karl, "like chewing a urine infested mattress."
I would concur. I ate and kept down 2 pieces to keep pace with my son in law.

I have tried haggis and actually liked it ... in moderation. I have tried blood pudding several times but can't acquire a taste for it. One thing I will never try is balut. 🤢

We rented a house in North Pole Alaska while visiting my son at the airbase. One night(doesn’t get dark at night while we were there) had very big moose lumber thru the yard.

Absolutely true, I've watched two fall from a 50-60' tall pine in my backyard and both got up like it was nothing... Much to my disappointment 😂 Sorry, but they are nothing more than bushy tail rats in my eyes. Always chewing up stuff they shouldn't be.

Had a couple cool encounters with bald eagles...

As we were driving down Old Sheldon Church Road, an eagle swooped down and grabbed roadkill. It then took off and proceeded to fly in front of our car, about 30' above us, straight down the road for 15-20 seconds. It never dropped it's food.
Another incident, a bald eagle buzzed our bird feeders. I was working in the yard and caught something out of the corner of my eye landing in a pine tree above my garage. I looked up, and it was just sitting there preening. I ran inside to get my phone and came back out in time to watch it cruise over my patio and bird feeders.
I really didn't realize how big they were.

At less than 5 yds watched and heard a hen turkey actually gobble. It's very, very rare, but it has been documented by none other than the late Lovett Williams, the preeminent wild turkey biologist.
Had a golden eagle fly over my vehicle in California and drop a snake in my way.

Had a turkey gobbling like crazy and called it up to about 15 yards before it stuck its big red head above a bank in front of of me. After I shot it and looked over the bank, everything else about it was like a hen- no visible beard, no spurs/ nothing. Thought about leaving it in the woods but wouldn’t be ethical/ checked again & found a beard so short that it was hidden by feathers/ it did have partially developed eggs. Took key parts to DNR biologists and they agreed that it was legal

A golden eagle on Lake Keowee was down by the shore taking a little rest. Also, two golden eagles with talons attached together in mid air on the Seward Highway in Alaska. Grizzly bear with two cubs on the shore of Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada. Huge grizzly in Yellowstone and huge black bear on the side of the ride in Alberta. Counted 8 black bears in one day near Smokey Mountain National Park.

We rented a house on Lopez island in the Washington state San Juan islands. While sitting on the back deck I saw bawd eagles nesting in a tree close to the water. Also while drinking my coffee I saw a sea plane drop people off at an island across from Lopez.

Seen a fire ant mound crossing a swamp while hunting about 25 years ago. Looks like a small volleyball moving across the top of the water. I found out later they surround the queen and rotate over and over each other and half the mound dies/drowns getting her across the water.

I've seen a few things that I thought I would not see hunting including having to call off a guy that was about to shoot a cow instead of a deer.
But in a non hunting situation in Yellowstone, I saw a wolf walking on the side of the road toward my car. I stopped in the middle of the road (no other traffic around) and he walked across the opposite lane up to the car and looked at me through the drivers side window. They are bigger than most realize. I was so enthralled watching him and didn't think about grabbing my phone for a picture. After a couple minutes checking things out, he walked down the road a few more feet and slipped into the wilderness.

A blue whale came up and “eyed” me and my son on a beach. Wasn’t more than 75 yards from the beach.
Saw a group of turtles ambush a water moccasin in a NC pond. It’s was as violent as anything I’ve ever seen.
Saw a group of dolphins not 25 yards off the beach circle to protect a mom having a baby dolphin.
Saw two loggerhead turtles mating in Key West. Went right by our boat ten ft away.

I was sitting in a tree stand looking over a creek bed and there was a ridge directly across from me. An owl took off out of one of the trees on the other side flying right toward me. I think he was planning to land on the shooting rail of the stand. When he was not more than 10 yards away he realized I was in the stand and put on the brakes mid-air. His body went vertical and he was flapping his wings backwards. He pulled up just short and swooped off to his right, my left. He was really close.
Several moose sightings at my cousin’s house in Alaska. I attached a pic of a cow with twins walking down the neighbor’s driveway.
I saw a squirrel fall about 20 feet out of a tree. Looked like it dazed him for a second, then he got up and ran up the tree again.
When we lived in St Thomas I saw a big iguana fall out of a tree. Probably about 20-25 feet. He just rolled over and crawled away.
On a whale watching trip in Alaska, we saw a cow and calf humpback breaching together. Looked like a Prudential insurance commercial.
I’m sure there are more by those are some highlights.

when hunting from a climber I was high enough to see over planted pines to a pasture with about 30 cows with a couple of calves. A coyote came into the field and the entire herd huddled in the middle of the field and then stampeded toward the coyote to try to trample it. Did the same thing a little later when a dog came out.

I saw my brother in law nail a crow sitting in a tree with a golf ball. The bird exploded with a “poof” of feathers and dropped strait down to the ground dead as a door mail. It never moved. Funniest thing I ever saw.

Dove hunting with my dad when I was just a pip squeak. Dove coming straight at us in the blind. He shoots three times. Two land in the blind, the other no more than 10 feet away. He says "Hey boy, go get that bird over there. Oh, and go get the frying pan"! I swear that man could limit out 12 birds on 11 shells. Best times of my life.
