Mortars easily, though I usually had to settle for bottle rockets. Snakes, LOL sad. Except South Park’s.

Bulldog Salute". After a couple blasts, those things would blow the bottom out of a five gallon metal bucket, after launching it about a hundred feet in the air.
My younger brother had a friend who today would be considered an enterprising terrorist-to-be. He would slice firecrackers with a razor blade, dump out all the gunpowder, get enough to tightly fill a matchbox, add a fuse, tightly wrap it with electrical tape, and make some HUGE booms.

Let's just say we weren't doing plumbing work. Neighbor's mom had a few downed dogwoods.

Not really a big 4th of July thing, but I probably had more fun with those than anything else.
Also, RIP whistlers.

Smoke can be fun. A few years ago, someone in my neighborhood mysteriously produced 5 smoke grenades on the 4th. Entire street bathed in multi colored smoke for almost an hour. ??

I do not understand how bottle rockets could be leading mortars in this poll.
"Boom-Boom" is way better than "fizz-pop."

When I was young, our neighborhood consisted of mostly boys. There were the older boys and the younger boys of which I was a member. Every Christmas, the older boys would gather under the street lights at night and talk about who knows what. One night, us younger guys tried to ease up and listen to their conversations. We were caught and the older guys dispersed us with penny rockets. I became upset at this and ran inside our house and retrieved my Roman candles that Santa had left. I quickly dispersed the older guys and was a hero with the younger set. That is until I went home and was approached by my Dad. I never used Roman candles for dispersion again.

Rockets and Roman candles. We would fire them at each other across the street.
The only time someone got hurt was when my buddy had a Roman candle backfire into his belly. It was a minor burn.
If you did that today people would probably call the cops.

Class of 1994 is abused on here quite often. I think I will summon a social worker to figure this mess out.

Used to make “bazookas” out of wrapping paper tubes and electrical tape, dress up in camo and wage war with bottle rockets in Williamson Park in Darlington. Cops would inevitably show up but there were too many escape routes. Especially at night. Managed to throw a jumping jack into a friend’s breast pocket of his cammies. Fortunately it burned through outward. The look on his face and his “dance” were worth it. Also had quite a few fast fuses go off in my hand. Fortunately they were the “regular” crackers and not M-80s. Ahh youth.

11 or 12 used to take great delight in shooting Roman Candles...directly at the rest of us. He actually burned a hole in my jacket pocket doing that one time. Needless to say, when that got explained to the grownups, discipline got handled in a completely different way than would be done nowadays. And the kid was none the worse for it, but today, it would be called assault.

He still didn't learn his lesson even after grabbing some bottle rockets in his mouth.
