Sammy Brown has a very classic tackling style

which is a good thing. His head and torso seem to be one solid piece like a wrecking ball. Not a dirty player. But a bone crushing hitter with reckless abandon. Great. Obviously.

However I think we may have to accept that he will get a targeting flag once in a while.

Bear Bryant use to say he liked players who could get there in a hurry and arrive with a bad attitude. The video seems to show that Sammy has both of those traits!

When I watched his film I though that very same thing. I said to myself that this kid will get a few targeting calls at the college before he learns what not to do at the college level. Plus he will accumulate a few roughing penalties also!!!

He's going to have to learn how to play linebacker at the college level. Phenomenal athlete and that alone will get him on the field, but you can even see in his film he has some bad angles that pure athleticism allows him to get away with. Those windows are smaller in college but given the way Carter and Trotter took a big step forward under Wes I think Brown will absolutely be there no later than Y2. He's a guy that very much would benefit from EE before getting onto the field as FR. It would be great if he was a freshman this year and could snap under Carter/Trotter but as it stands he's likely to get some on the job learning.

You have to admire players whose favorite part of the game seem to be the collisions. Guys like Mike Alstott, Tim Tebow, Brandon Jacobs, Skalski, John Lynch, and Brian Dawkins. The list goes on, but guys like this bring passion to the game and I love it.

I just don't want to see our players taking targeting calls and getting ejected.
