Running it up?

Seen a few Duke fans upset that we went for 4th downs late in the game. I didn't see a problem with it. We're not gonna punt from their 20, and by the same token, kicking a FG could be seen as running it up.
Should we have just run it up the gut? Fallen on the ball and just given it to them? I'd feel disrespected if someone did that to us.
Thoughts?

A FG is seen as sure points. Going for it gives them a chance to keep points off the board.
And do so with your reserves on the field.

Fans may not know, but coaches know that taking the field goal is running it up. A very basic run play on a 4th down late is what the losing coach sees as a show of decency.
