running back recruiting

Sep 11, 2017, 11:05 AM

Keep hearing about how the talent level at RB is costing us from national media. Lets take a step back and think about this:

I know we all would've loved to have Marshall, Gurley, Cook, Kamara, etc. but given what Wayne Gallman accomplished and what he meant to the program, its hard to say we'd truly change anything if we could. We went from JD to Spiller to Ellington, and after a year which Hot Rod McDowell played great and put together a nice season I for one bought into the recruit ranking hype and figured Zach Broocks would be the next in line of Clemson RB star players.

But Gallman saw an opportunity and took advantage, and once it was his job he was a steady starter for three years and an unwavering leader of the team. So now we have three capable starters including one that was a consensus top five rb in his class, with some recruiting services ranking him #1 overall. And he's a sophomore now. We have two other guys that were ranked higher or as high as Gallman and who watched him in that leadership role. I say its their time to grab the bull by the horns and take advantage of the opportunity (and really Fuller started to show this in the playoffs last year, and I'll always be thankful that he set us up for some nice field position on that last drive on a huge kick return against Alabama.)

It isn't a talent deficiency. Tell that to Wayne Gallman, or Hunter Renfrow! These guys need to step up and be the alpha dog that Wayne Gallman was. They have the talent, someone just needs to WANT to be the leader, and want the role as starter. Its on them, and I have no doubt we will see someone step up and be the man this week!

Steele stacked the box with 4 & 5 star talent to stop the run.Dabo and staff weren't gonna put their young QB in the position to lose the game and ran it anyways.

I was at the game. My comment was directed toward national media blaming rb recruiting, and then the RB stable that has yet to have an alpha dog emerge, but I expect to see that this Saturday night. It was more of a stream of consciousness than a comment/critique.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”
