What happened to good sportsmanship?

Just tip your hat and congratulate the other team.

Did they not see the refs review almost every catch by a Clemson receiver? Talk about trying to take some momentum out of some of the drives!

Herbstreet talking about his arms was hilarious during the game.

Good grief! You would expect at least a little bit of class from Alabama. What a whiner!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nothing wrong with his comments

Jan 11, 2017, 2:38 PM [ in reply to What happened to good sportsmanship? ]

During the course of a game, I seldom agreed with a call that went against me, particularly when it was something like a charge/block call. (basketball and golf were my main sports) I don't see the need to call him out on those comments. He had a half dozen microphones in his face after losing the NCG and he's 21 at most. He didn't make an issue of it. He just said how the calls impacted their attitude. Personally, I think it was the CU players' amazing catches and unwillingness to go away, but I get how thinking it was referee calls feels better.

He deserves some slack.

He is from the SEC which explains alot. If they win, it is because they are better, if they lose it is someone else's fault. Typical SEC arrogance

a BUNCH of holds by Bama's Oline, and a few blocks in the back, and two or three targeting calls. So I don't wanna hear it.

I thought that was worse than the obvious, text book, targeting plays that Alabama had and they didn't call.

Every play, they were allowed to tackle our DE's behind the LOS to save a sack with the ref standing there and watching it. Their O lineman was on our players back when they went down and the ref done nothing and he watched it!!!!

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Is this at all surprising?

Jan 11, 2017, 11:59 AM

This is the typical (not everyone, I'll admit) Bama delusion. We cannot be beaten, so it must be another's fault when we lose. Take your pick:

Refs made us lose.
We didn't want to be there.
Other team must have cheated.
We assumed we were ahead on the scoreboard, but don't get a proper education at our school, so couldn't do the math.
Not fair that the ball isn't perfectly round, so there were some anti-Bama bounces.

What happened to playing your hardest, then admitting the other team was better (even if it's just for 60 minutes)?
This is the result of the everyone gets a trophy culture, where you're not taught at a young age that there's always someone better so you learn to win and lose with class.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I guess when everyone is telling you that you're the

Jan 11, 2017, 12:36 PM

greatest defense of all time it kinda goes to your head. We can't be beat because everyone told us we were the best so it must be the refs. Just like their defense didn't get scorched last year, they just didn't play real Alabama football.

Jan 11, 2017, 12:01 PM

I guess you didn't see the same game I saw monday night. If anything the refs were against the tigers,at the end of the day big ten refs allowed both sides to bang heads.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The Refs did miss a couple calls...

Jan 11, 2017, 12:06 PM

...but is was not the rub calls they missed....it was the head shots Williams and Watson took.

Bama players should learn the rules of football....

Good article that explains it: http://www.sbnation.com/2017/1/9/14221614/clemson-alabama-pick-play-pass-interference-rub

2017_nascar_champ.gif2018_nascar_champ.gif2019_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just to clarify "rubs" happen often at the goalline and are

Jan 11, 2017, 12:13 PM

not illegal. And to further clarify, there was a rub intended on Renfrow's winning TD, but the defender ended up tackling Scott who had full right to make a move to the inside. The tackling action is what ultimately took Renfrow's defender out of the play. They should blame their own DBs for that one, but regardless a rub isn't against the rules.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Just to clarify "rubs" happen often at the goalline and are

Jan 11, 2017, 12:46 PM

One of the guest refs said the reason there was no flag, was bc the Bama player initiated the penalty before the ghost excessive rub that was thought to be a penalty by the bama people.

Even Finebaum commented on some Bamians

Jan 11, 2017, 12:08 PM

whining about officiating---he criticized any attempt to place any blame for the loss on the refs and he did state outright that the tiders had gotten away with some plays that could easily have resulted in targeting ejections

The only people even clinging to the hope that referee errors were what cost them the game are stupid Bamà players and fans.....and, of course, the green chickens in columbia

Re: FB Update: Alabama DB: "Refs were against us"

Jan 11, 2017, 4:02 PM

Generally I am not a conspiracy theorist, but even I was concerned about "The Fix" being in against Clemson. Vegas stood to lose MILLIONS of dollars if Clemson won. The no calls on the targeting early just confirmed that we would have to beat 'Bama and the officials.

Re: FB Update: Alabama DB: "Refs were against us"

The refs are always against the losing team right?
His comments are probably being blown out of proportion. He was frustrated.
The 2 no calls on the targeting evens out the complaints as far as i am concerned.

I told everyone in the stands that

Jan 11, 2017, 12:38 PM
HR.JPG(16.8 K)

The refs missed 3 calls (at least) in the first quarter alone and I told everyone around me in the stands, long before some calls started going our way - 1) the targeting penalty on the Deshaun hit to the head with the arm; 2) the targeting penalty on the Mike W. hit that was unquestionably helmet-to-helmet targeting; and (3) the obvious holding on their first TD (holding on our defender - can't remember who, but occurred on about the 3 yard line. Those were obvious and I was on row N in the upper deck and could see it. In addition, the refs were horrible all night long. For a ref that was 25 yards away from the play to have to call obvious PI when there was ref 2 yards away is awful.

Finally, for all the Alabama people who claim that Tay committed PI on the game-winning "rub", watch it again. That should have been defensive PI. Tay goes straight to the defender, the defender gets his hands completely around Tay and pulls him to the ground!! Look at this picture that I have attached. That is first contact on the play. Clearly defensive PI.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Technically, this is defensive holding...

Jan 12, 2017, 9:07 AM

until the ball is in the air.

It was clear to me that bama was intentionally doing PI just to get the game to overtime. The time still comes off the clock on a PI or holding call, so we would have been forced to kick a field goal.

Not a bad strategy, but the call by Scott was even better! Bama's interference took their other DB out of the play! Easy 6!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: FB Update: Alabama DB: "Refs were against us"

Jan 11, 2017, 12:40 PM

I called more penalties than the refs did! DW4 took a blow to the head more than once, MW7 as well ... I thought maybe since Watson had hung with Cam Newton some that he was getting the Cam Newton treatment.

it's like the old folks say, 'Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.' Why in the world did they play our WR's so close after getting fooled once? Morons. Oh, and the second pick was a definite flag on them for tackling Scott on the other side of the LOS. Smooth move, Exlax. SOS said that play was legal and he knows more about football than any of those who are openly complaining.

I also thought Dabo vindicate himself for not understand that onside kick from the previous year was a legal play and not teaching the formation to stop it. Nothing says screw you like doing the same thing to them to end the game at the next meeting. Payback is a bich.

Bama was clearly trying to hurt our stars Watson and Williams to start the game. Bama didn't have many big plays but most of them were due to uncalled penalties. Bama was lucky these refs sucked as bad as they did. The Fiesta bowl refs were great but these guys sucked.
