In choosing which school to attend I was leaning towards Auburn. "Clemson is three hundred miles closer to home." What he didn't mention was that it was cheaper to go to Clemson than Auburn ($2400 a year v. $3000). I still think I made a smart move in the long run.

1.98 due to taking all his electives at BJU and Greenville Tech. He took a pottery class during the summer and needed an 'A,' to graduate. The engineering dept wouldn't let him graduate with anything less than a 2.0.
I don't want to embarrass John Brinley but fug him for being a dumbasz.

BSEE here as well. Mine wasn't from taking electives elsewhere it was from changing majors twice and generally not giving a ####. I knew all I had to do was graduate with a BSEE and I'd have a job. That's the way the industry was in 1982.

house.
Me and my friends used to camp out there, ages 10-13 or so, walk the streets of Edgefield all night, and smoke cigarettes, etc.
He told me he better never catch me smoking in that log cabin, and that if I wanted to smoke get my a$$ uptown on the square in front of everyone.
He also told me and my brothers once when we woke him up being real loud listening to a Clemson basketball game on the radio, that he had to "GET UP WHEN IT'S DARK, GOTD*AMNED DARK."

My dad told me some dumb stuff, too.
Mar 22, 2018, 1:47 PM
|
|
"No son of mine will ever be a lawyer". He really, really hated lawyers. Lets face it--the only reason to be a lawyer is to take a bunch of money from people, which in retrospect, is the only reason I even get up to go to work.
"Never jump out of a good airplane" I understand this one, at least from his perspective. He flew in a B-29 in the Korean war, so just making it home in a flyable airplane was about 90% of the goal. Jumping out of one that was still flying was pretty dumb.
"Never join the military." Looking back, that was wrong on so many levels I can't count. But had I been getting shot in a prop bomber by North Korean jets like he did, I'd have probably said the same thing.
"Probably best for you not to get married." He said this because I never wanted kids. He may have been right on this one; jury is still out.

"If you get SarahAdidas pregnant, you're gonna have to take care of it."
He was right about that one... twice.
When somebody comments on how so-and-so must be rich because of something they have:
"That doesn't mean they're rich. It just means that they spend a lot of money."

'No one is better than you and you are no better than anyone else.' I seemed to already know that so my favorite was 'If it's worth doing it's worth doing right!' I think that's the origin of my obsession with perfection.
