Tommy did two things for Clemson.

He helped bring energy back to the fans after Danny was fired and he hired Dabo. Tommy had his father's last name, anyone with a famous father could have done that.
He hired Dabo and recommended Dabo for the interim coach when he was fired. For that I thank him. His extortion of a contract extension after letting our offensive and defensive lines go all to helll I will forever hold against him.

I've got nothing against TB. He did us a good turn to the extent he could, applied his name, integrity and best efforts to get us to a place beyond the mediocrity (or worse) that we had fallen to. Our athletes were better, our facilities were better and the assistants improved (more or less). Clearly, hiring Dabo and recommending him not only was a favor for us, but his recommendation indicated he still wanted the program to move forward - he was spot on.
He wasnt the most personable guy ever to coach, but he was a good one and I while I dont miss him, I do recognize that our current success began with his vision and commitment.

Bottom line is there would be no Dabo without Tommy. I never disliked Tommy as a coach. It just seemed towards the end he lost his fire and that is exactly what Dabo brought to the table. I'm proud of what both coaches have done for Clemson.

Bowden got Clemson on the radar for offensive skill players. Before 1999 Clemson was known for defense, but not offense. He also saw the need for better facilities. The West Endzone and Indoor Practice facilities really put Clemson recruiting into another level.

Say what you want about the man, facilities, and players improved from the Tommy West days and he was a certified Coot Killer of a coach.

Tommy ran a clean program. We had some good times

and some bad times. He worked to improve facilities. Overall, frustration ruined the day for him and he was let go. He sure knew how to beat he!! out of the chickens though and for this I am grateful !

I'm glad for that. Really. I don't like it when Clemson wore Orange and Navy. Clemson is Orange and Purple, so I'm glad TB recognized that.
