Rice vs Texas Rivalry

I see where Rice lost to Texas Saturday for the 16th straight time; in typical fashion by a final score of 10-37. Why does Rice play Texas? Anyone?

care one iota about the footsball. They just take the conference money and invest it elsewhere.

They sound like a great candidate for the ACC.***

Rice plays Texas not because it is easy but because it is hard. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things not because it is easy but because it is hard. JFK

Rice vs Texas is the same as Presbyterian vs Clemson
The one difference is, Rice is a better school. Rice is the best school in Texas and extremely difficult to get in to.

There is no such rivalry

I live in Houston (where Rice is). Two things:
1 Nobody at Rice gives a care about football. It represents 0% of their school identity. They have no business fielding a football team. IMO, they will quit football in the next 5-10 years.
2 When it comes to football, UT barely knows Rice exists.
Funny thing is, 20 or so years ago Rice sometimes had decent football teams. Somewhere along the way, interest just tanked. Now that we are in the professional NIL era, they should just quit or go FCS.

Not sure if it’s well known around here, but I seem to recall that Clemson has an all time losing record vs Rice.

What happened to Rice baseball?

They won the national title sometime in the 2000s and used to always challenge for Omaha. Haven’t even seen them in the regionals in last few years

And another funny thing, kind of ironic, is in 1940 Rice hired future Hall of Fame football coach Jess Neely away from Clemson to be their head football coach. My how times have changed.
