Biggest award, largest stage

Dec 11, 2016, 9:30 AM

National TV with the legends of football behind you? 19 years old...make a speech.

Ask yourself how would you do?

Good kid. Great athlete. Making a better life for himself and his family.

Get a grip Clemson nation.

I think most of have a grip on this, but just my opinion, the Heisman is no longer about the most valuable player, but a popularity contest.

He was popular because he has some unbelievable numbers and a tremendous number of eye popping moments on the field this year.

I wanted Deshaun Watson to win. Should November matter? Yup. Did two INT's prevent him from winning ? Maybe.

However to imply that Jackson won merely because he was popular just isn't accurate. Individually, the kid was/is absolutely unstoppable.

Purely the product of media hype. Maybe one day they will,

for some crazy reason, using whatever criteria they use, get behind a deserving Clemson player. One can only dream.

Most of the anger is with ESPN's hype machine. They throw

out LJ's stats, well if stats were the pure measure of the Heisman, then Patrick Mahomes from Texas Tech should have won the Heisman, as he had more yards of total offense and more total TD's (running and passing) in 2016 than LJ.

ESPN had LJ as a lock for the award by week 5. The award selection needs to be from previous winners and coaches, not sports writers. Too many Josh Kendall's out there with agendas.

Was Deshaun more deserving?

Dec 11, 2016, 10:11 AM

In my opinion, yes. Was Jackson undeserving? In my opinion No. He was a very viable candidate. The other three didn't belong and the vote totals indicated that much.

The emotions attached to the opinions in college sports is one of the reason it's so popular.

All that said, this thread is somewhat logical and at least thoughtful.

The personal attacks and vitriol I've seen elsewhere on tigernet are shameful and based in spiteful ignoranance. Very frustrating.
