Fix the lapel pin ...and thanks coach. Gonna win a lot this season right?
Because if it is one things for football success to overshadow the basketball program but the knives come out towards the BB program when Football isn't in the playoffs.

Wake Forest football is average in conference. My guess, the two Mississippi teams are somewhat average nationally overall. Great company!

Lots of delusion in this thread. When you are ugly and have only been able to attract ugly girls all of your life, you finally get an average girl to like you you hang on to her. The alternative is other ugly girls. Yall seem to think there is a supermodel out there somewhere who likes a short, fat, bald and broke dude. Its a unicorn which does not exist.

I guess the most important number ...
Oct 1, 2021, 10:44 AM
|
|
... isn't the less than stellar 57% winning pct or the 61% average attendance (to capacity)
... it appears to have been the $63.5 million renovation campaign Brownell spearheaded.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that he's able to help raise that kind of money for Clemson, I just wish he had the same propensity for getting the team to play better than average basketball.
I went to every basketball game I could when I was at Clemson. Over the years I watched many games on TV until the last few years because I got tired of watching our team lose 'winnable' games in a frustrating manner.
Congrats for the contract extension and I hope that leads to more motivation to achieve better results, but I'm not holding my breath.

Brad had a change this season to be the only Clemson basketball coach with a winning record in ACC play. Let that sink in. He is actually (record-wise) the best coach we have ever had. That includes Barne's time, a lot better than OP (GT is still running the lay up drill on him), and really his only similar comparison is Ellis - and Ellis had his own issues and was either just as good or often a LOT worse. Considering the climate is harder on non-blueblood P5 conference teams, Brad is literally doing more against the tide.
Not only that, but Brad has a better record against *winnable* teams than just about any other coach we have had. My knock towards Brad is that his upsets - while he does notch them, is light against the top 5 teams. We don't knock off #1 Duke/UNC as much but also we beat #6-25 a lot more often. He is a consistently better coach but not a occasional upset coach.
63 Million is a good *start* but we spent only 1/3 of what UVA spent over a decade ago.

Because his record says that he is, based on several metrics:
-Overall wins -NCAA Tournament wins -ACC winning percentage
He also runs a clean program, has set records for player academic performance, and makes sure that our players represent our program well in the community.

Record coaching wins for Clemson B-Ball. I really want him to succeed, but come on; He holds the record solely because he has been at the helm for 11 years. -Averages 18.3 wins per season -Losing ACC record
It is what it is. Best of luck Coach Brownell. Here’s your chance to turn it around. Let’s go Tigers!

It gives a coach who made the tournament last year an additional 4 years for recruiting purposes, but also keeps the buyout at a somewhat manageable $2,000,000 range for the next several years. I bet the athletic department can come up with that amount if we don't make the tournament in the next 2 years.

Extends the contract to include 4 years that a player would be here
Buyout is relatively low in case we needed to let him go at the end of a season... basically would only owe him 1 year of additional pay.
There are certainly worse contracts out there for coaches that are even more on the hot seat than Brownell

Well that guarantees mediocrity in men's basketball probably through most of the rest of my lifetime. I just don't understand how any evaluation of this program leads to an extension of the coach's contract. Sorry Brad, but you've had more than enough time to get it done and it just hasn't happened.

1) Cannot outcoach his opposing coaches in last five minutes of games. 2) Cannot develop players he recruits. 3) Assistant coaches are inferior. 4) Cannot recruit top-tier players. 5) Has had to resort to taking transfers each year for 1-2 years play maximum due to recruiting shortcomings. 6) Cannot successfully teach his key players on how to stay out of foul trouble in key games. 7) Good teams have good inside and outside game play while not focusing on any one. 8) Consistently focuses on three point offense rather than taking a power game inside at key situations in games.

1) Actually, he normally does out-coach opponents in the last five minutes. He was 4-2 last year in games decided by less than four points. In reality, a few more games where he opened up a bit more of a lead in the last 3-7 minutes of a closer game. Really, Brad often can keep us in a game that we might not should have been within a prayer to begin with.
2) Actually, he does very well developing players if you pay attention.
3)Assistants are a byproduct of resources made available. We lag far, far behind on what we can offer an assistant.
4)Clemson can't recruit top-tier players, never has. How is that on Brad? Heck, we were doing well even when national powers were using shoe money to sway decisions.
5)Welcome to modern basketball. Every program must do that now unless you are finding the one-and-done NBA talent... and even then you have to every year
6)Our fouls fewer than most ACC schools. We ranked 10th in opposing opponents attempting free throws, our opponents made fewer free throws (%) as well. Considering that we do not have tobacco officials in our favor, we are not foul prone.
7)The inside game has been dying. In addition, there are fewer and fewer big-men that can stretch a court. Small, fast, and accurate is the new norm. In addition, there is only so many athletic big men so slow bigs become a liability. But again, you have to find the big and fast bigs and there is only a handful....
8)This is modern basketball. You play the stats. 3pt will will you more game in a season. For every inside bucket, you lost a point against a 3pt team. Power game, what is this, the early 80s. Uggg.

Thank you for bringing some sanity to this conversation. I’ve admittedly only followed the hoops team for three years (since my son enrolled), but the highs have far exceeded the lows, and I don’t think I’ve seen more than a handful of games — and I watch just about all of them — where I felt Clemson was outcoached or not prepared. It’s not perfect for sure; I love the defensive intensity, not a fan of the reliance on the 3-ball and I wish they had more four-year recruits than going through the transfer portal. But guys have developed…Dawes, Hemenway, Tyson Hunter all have taken big steps forward…and they always manage a surprise win or three over the course of the year. My fear is that this could certainly be a rough year if Hall isn’t ready to accept a big role and the transfers don’t fit. So be it. The program is in steady hands and they won’t be down for long. Wish there was a little more support and a bit less sarcasm from the posters.

This this contract was done because of some hopeful good news in recruiting.
They just signed a 3 star top 150-200 player- combo forward in Wiggins. They have two players who are on official visits this weekend including 4 star top 75 player, power forward from Orlando, Florida -- Ven-Allen Lubin.
He has one more offical visit with Notre Dame next week. Think they are trying to convince him the program is steady and this should be the place for him.

Why is the Clemson administration so unbelievably content
Oct 1, 2021, 5:48 PM

with abject mediocrity in the basketball program? Look what Alabama is doing with its basketball program. It is possible to be really good and run a clean program. Clemson is not willing to do what it takes to obtain such a coach. This year in basketball is going to be really ugly. And with what is probably going to happen with football (no CFP - minor bowl at best), maybe some people will wake up.

Wow, the Holiday Inn Express must really be busy because not do People on this site think they now how to run a football program and now they have all the answers for basketball. There are other schools in the country that need help and obviously there are few true fans on this site so waste your time somewhere else because nobody reads reads all of the bs.
