Regardless of how you feel about Dabo (I'm in the, keep him he's more than earned 1-2 more years to fix this mess but we HAVE to see big changes this offseason camp)

If you think we should fire him today/this season I'm not sure you actually watch the sport at all.

jobs opening up this year,
Penn State
UCLA
Va Tech
Arkansas
Oklahoma State
Florida (99.99% chance of opening up soon)
Potentially Auburn, and FSU opening up as well.

You'd be fighting for scraps and whatever top tier coach you think you can get would have you over a barrel against other schools. Va tech just got a huge boost of funds from the state, Arkansas has walmart money, even the mid tier schools many think Clemson is head and shoulders over have money ready to blow. Not to mention you'd have to have the money to buy Dabo out AND pay the new coach potentially more money.

What would make Clemson more attractive to an elite coach over Penn State or Florida? We don't have as much money as them and we aren't in the 2 super league conferences like those two are.

Don't get me wrong we have to make internal changes ASAP, but I hear a ton of mindless b!tching without any actual thoughts or any realistic solutions.

It's been in decline for 5 years and you think dabo will change this in a year or two??

There might not be a good one. We are potentially stuck with the worst version of Dabo or hiring a second/third choice.

Mine would be to get on the GM train. Neff hires a GM to run the program. The requirements are: zero fear of Dabo, a mathematical genius that can read stats and predict trends, all while managing funds. Moneyball.

I predict this is the only way we overcome our late start on the portal and weird NIL stance.

Further predict that the GM angle is where everyone will be in a few years anyway. If Dabo refuses, fire him for cause after next year.

Hokies just got an extra 47 million a year for athletics from their BOT. We're still ahead in our program brand and facilities but it's not as big as a gulf as it was just a year ago.

If we think we're at the top and not even in the same conversations as Va Tech, let's look at Penn State and UF, what's the argument we have for being a better job than those two? And would we even have the money to fire Dabo and the whole staff outbid UF/Penn State and hire on a completely new staff?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think PSU and Florida could both beat out

Clemson for a coach right now. Most of the advantages we had 5-6 years ago are gone now.

So I ask, whats your solution? Fire Dabo? Who are you hiring in his place thats a clear upgrade and would take the job over Penn State and UF?

I've said my solution many times on here.........

AD and BOT (or however that works) sit Dabo down at the end of the season and tell him that he HAS to change his approach to his program......he must be "all in" to the portal........SELL your NIL to HS and portal kids.........Take a HARD look in the mirror at your team and coaching staff and demand the tough decisions to cut anyone who's not getting the job done, on the gravy train w/o any business being on it, free ride U b/c you're a "loyal tiger"....................if he can't get on board with that, then agree to split.

I'm fine having that convo at the end of next year if we don't see changes, my point is to fire him this year specifically with all the other open gigs and a massive buyout it would be a reckless mistake.

If Tony Elliot has UVA humming next year as well with another QB, maybe Venables gets fired at OU,(I hope he doesn't I wish him nothing but success) I'd seriously consider those two options, but THIS specific offseason would be a horrible mistake. And I think with those two guys specifically we could make a true pitch of them coming home rather than just a money argument that we would lose against the likes of UF/Penn State.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that's where we differ.......I'm not moving the goalposts to NEXT year.......

it's been FIVE years of OBVIOUS sub standard performance on the field........FIVE. I thought they should've had the conversation after 2022, but it doesn't seem they did.

Nobody's bigger than the university.........every coach has "their time" and every program that loses a coach..........gets another. Again, I'm not advocating for his firing this year, but if he refuses to change his ways and NEGLECTS the program health like he has the last 5 years, then next year the firing discussions may be warranted.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If I’m Neff I start requiring we take the portal seriously, clean house of nepotism and start making NIL a big part of our recruiting pitch. I think that gets us parity with mid-tier schools at least.

My suggestion: keep the OC & DC and fire everyone else. Then let the coordinators hire their own staffs. On game days, let the coordinators do their jobs without micromanaging.

It’s amazing you think Dabo will make ANY legitimate changes after this year.

Hes made token coordinator changes and not let those two hire their own staff. So that was just window dressing.

Dabo is too stubborn and arrogant to make any changes. He’s going to ride this program all the way down and milk it for all he can get. It’s who he is now.

And I don’t disagree with you about the number of programs that will be looking to hire coaches. That’s a real issue. We won’t have to worry about that because we can’t afford to fire Dabo and he won’t do the right thing (like Saban) and walk away from the sport and save Clemson the buyout.

Saban was in his 70s, of course it's easier for him to retire.

So what's your realistic solution and what specifically are you asking for? Ask him to retire? Lets ask Cade to give his money back while we're in "never gonna happen" land.

First thing I would do is I’d fire Dabo’s assistants outside of the coordinators and let them hire their own staffs. I’d have those assistants and their staffs report to the AD or a GM and not Dabo. And I wouldn’t like him interfere in anything (during practice week and on Gameday).

Basically I’d neuter Dabo of any control. If he wants to stick around and be a figurehead and get paid I’m fine with that.

Just let someone else run the program and try to right the ship.

Dabo is basically not trying to win any more. He’s self retiring but still getting paid.

And his whining about having earned the right to try to turn this around is total crap. He’s been running this program into the program for 4-5 years with his leadership. If it weren’t for the incredibly weak ACC we’d be no where near ten win seasons the last few years.

Heck if we were in the SEC this year we might go 2-10. Because we’re in the weak ACC we might get to four wins (I’m counting Furman). This is how far we’ve fallen.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Think the biggest thing is that Dabo needs to revamp the staff

Alot of underperforming assistants & too many "nepo" hires (former players, teammates, or ppl w/ long standing personal ties). Its killed what was 1 of the program's biggest attributes in 2010s (development) and it's created complacency.

Also, Dabo has to change his stance on the portal...the proof is in the pudding. If you're gonna be national championship caliber now, you have to utilize it in some capacity. Yes, there's plenty that are just gonna jump school to school chasing bags, but I'd figure Dabo would at least kick tires on going after proven lower division guys who would love the opportunity to come to a school like Clemson & prove themselves at highest level.

He has at least another year. They won’t do anything without setting expectations and giving him some time. To think anything else is wishful thinking.

I agree.

Bottom line is we can’t afford the buyout and Dabo won’t leave without getting paid to leave (fired).

If I were the AD I’d make the it as uncomfortable as possible for Dabo in every possible way. Unfortunately we have a boy / child as AD so that won’t happen either.

Could market conditions worsen ?

Absolutely. NIL and the portal is going to eat them up and spit them out.

There is no absolute formula for success

This new “ market “ is still sorting itself out.
