Reedy River run is pretty good, first part of the 5K

is a lot of up hill. They have a 10K too, the last leg of that one is murder. (listening RH?)
There is a G'ville News Race in July I think that is somewhat big.
Swamp Rabbit 5K is a mess.

I ran the Reedy River 10K this past spring. Blacked out on the last hill up Broad Street. That is some bull ####.

The problem with the SRT race
Jun 14, 2012, 2:47 PM
|
|
Is that you've got 5-6000 people in TR...which is pushing it, then everybody finishes the race on the SRT. You cant thin out a field that big in 3 miles to run on a 6ft wide piece of pavement.
You ever run on trails? There is a 7K coming up in August at Paris Mountain. Running up there is pretty fun.

boasts having a net downhill course, free bball tickets and hotdog and coke after the race.
Might be one to put down for next spring.

Greenville Downtown 5K and Reedy River 5K/10K
Jun 14, 2012, 2:40 PM
[ in reply to 10K and 5K ] |

are probably your best bets as far as a "Big race" in Greenville. Nice courses through downtown.
They have a 5K during Spinx Runfest weekend too...its called the Big Punkin. Lots of people dress up for it.
There's just about a 5K every weekend for some cause in or around the greenville metro all the time. 10K's in this area seem to be more difficult to find.

Fun "smaller runs" I've done

Sugar Creek has a Jingle Bell jog in early December, pretty flat course
Furman has a turkey trot weekend before Thanksgiving, 5K, halfway point is that hill on the wooded side of the lake so that turns it a little harder than an average 5K

Its a good stepping stone between 5K and a half...
Jun 14, 2012, 2:56 PM

but seems like you have to travel to find many of them. I think most race directors look for a 5K to get that easy money from the beginners or use for a fundraiser.
Halfs are kind of the same way...beginners or fundraisers.
