Recruiting/commits

Here's a thought on how to control these bidding wars. Get rid of signing period. When you commit, you sign a one or 2 year contract with the school. No other school can now contact you and vice versa.
Stop all this foolishness. It's hurting the sport and it can't be healthy to these young kids.
One more thing. You can't hit the portal till after your second year of college.

Couldn't agree more with your overall sentiment. The soul of the sport is being, or has been, destroyed.

The only way to control this is for the NCAA to put some rules and regulations into this wild wild west that is the NIL now. Without any type of guidelines there's no way the smaller schools can keep pace. They have to put some type of clause in these Letters of Intent...min 2 years once you sign at least.

Agree. But you're essentially saying adopt the NFL model with modifications of course. Is this not what next year's legislation cover? I'm asking because I can't make sense of it except we'll have more schollys but less fb players. And they'll be a cap? But does that stop a kid from going somewhere else?

You could try but unless you're paying top dollar no players agent would allow them to sign away their ability to leave for a better deal any time they felt like it.

Not if the signing period is in November 1 and December 1 of the kids senior year. This way the kid has all his stars he is going to have and will 30 days to back out and change their minds. Anyone left can sign with anyone else until the normal December 19 signing day.

Basically be the same as NFL free agency. Once a player signs he can't just say hey I'm getting a better deal somewhere else so bye. A contract is a contract. Also, put a cap on the amount a school can spend. Both NIL and revenue sharing and have a governing body with a spine and actually enforce the rules.

Nowadays, a commitment is nothing more than the signal that the auction has officially started, and what bid is needed to unseat the previous high bidder.

exactly. I use to get excited about a commitment but no more. Can a player when they sign Wednesday turn around and hit the portal on 12-9 when that door opens if someone gives them the money they are looking for.
