I think Saban retiring might have just made Clemson the stable giant — the safe bet — for the path to the nfl
- parents love a track record
- recruits today grew up with Clemson / Alabama being the playoff teams
- our defense has been championship caliber
- Hiring Luke - who built UGAs oline - gives serious credibility
- Dabo is arguably the top active head coach
- we commit to players. We don’t portal them
- we are stable in terms of coaching, process, development
- other traditionally stable teams are in flux right now
I think we might be seeing consistency beginning to pay off.

they do the whole dabo is falling behind the times and dabo wont get with the portal. BS. Once our NIL money hits the Clemson Train, we will be back like crack! The OL coach is going to make a big difference in our program. I will put money on that right now with anyone.

We're going to have to win another natty or at least a couple more conference championships. Right now, the easy story is to paint Dabo as the old-school contrarian.

I also think UGA has been loaded to the gills with talent the last 4-5 years, and they've lost 3 really good recruiters the last 2 years is not helping their cause they way it used it.
Not to mention, you have to believe all the crazy stuff that's happened there (car racing, trouble with the law, drinking and driving, kids dying in the accident) has had some kind of effect on at least some of the recruits and parents.

It’s funny you think that means something to a lot of 17-18 year olds and their parents. Some yes I’m with you 100%. The majority care about 2 things money and the NFL. Most of the time they are your WR or defensive back star players. Georgias grade rates are over blown. I promise you the only ones looking at that are not winning.

Georgia finished ahead of Clemson in recruiting for most of the last 10 years. Same number of CFP championships and Clemson has more CFP appearances.

TBH - it would make me feel a little better knowing we don’t actively facilitate our players being a danger to themselves and others. There are some really good football players that come from very unfortunate backgrounds and Kirby is happy to lean into that in the worst possible way. It’ll make a riveting 30 for 30 when it is finally told.

Sounds like you're saying Kirby exploits the misfortunte of HS kids. Tell us all why it's clear to you this is happening but not these kids' parents or guardians. Are you smarter than them? Do these parents lack the morals and ethics to protect their kids from UGA?

They seemed to be getting EVERYONE 2-4 years ago (even when their roster was loaded). While they're still #1 in recruiting, I do think there are some opportunities to better compete for some kids that were not there a few years ago.
Can't have all the things that I mentioned, (plus the graduation rates...I forgot about that), and lose your best recruiters and not fall off at all.
Seeing 20 guys leave the program the past 6 weeks was a bit alarming. That number was up from 14 in 22, and 13 in 21.
On our side, Adding Nick Eason, and now Chris Rumph and Matt Luke is going to pay dividends as those 3 are Top Notch recruiters and are well respected as position coaches.

Matt Luke was a homerun hire for Dabo.
As for UGA and recruiting, I just don't see where it's fallen off. UGA finished #1 and UGA just brought in Travaris Robinson, who is a great recruiter. Kirby's worst recruiting finish was 4th. Like everyone, UGA has always missed out on some players they wanted (Caleb Downs most recently). This will continue to happen but with Saban out of the picture, it's hard to believe that UGA's recruiting is suddenly going to suffer.
Here's an ugly truth about graduation rates, there may be some who look at that and decide to go elsewhere. But as long as Kirby is developing and putting players into the league at a record rate, I don't think recruiting will drop.
Not sure of the point you're making about "alarming" UGA transfers. I won't dispute the numbers you provided. Clemson's transfers over the past three years were 10 (2024), 12 (2023), and 11 (2022). If UGA had all these transfers and was finishing outside the top 10 in recruiting, then maybe it's an issue. They way Kirby recruits, I just don't see this having a huge impact.

So we’ve had a great start to the 2025 class. No doubt about it. I’m just curious why so many have posted about how recruiting has changed. We are all the sudden recruiting better than we ever have before? According to rivals since 2015 we’ve only landed outside the top 10 like 2 times. We consistently have classes with high percentage of 4*, a handful of 3*, and a couple 5* each year.
The only difference is when they commit. Some years we land them early. Some years and especially as of late we typically land the bulk of our class in the summer. This class seems to be loading up early. But we are still signing the same quality we’ve always signed. This class appears to have us headed for about 6-7ranking if I were to guess. We’ve done that a few times since 2015. And we’ve been 8-10 the majority of the time.
Now we won’t know if we hit on these guys until after they get here. But my point is on paper this class is lining up to be on par with past classes and possibly on the upper end of our average.

Because some of them committed early they will drop in rankings at some point. It happens every year but you can bet if they committed to an SEC team they will not go down in most cases.

For me, the excitement for the 2025 has to do with the offensive line commitments and their new coach. I have been dreaming of this situation for a while. I miss the Danny Ford days of pushing teams back on both sides of the line of scrimmage. It never made sense for Clemson to be so weak on the offensive line. Ajax cannot scrub the grin off of my face right now. Third and one will no longer drive me crazy. Spot the ball and Go Tigers!

I think the only hold-over on the offensive side is Robert Gillespie. Freddie Roach is hold-over on defensive line. Not sure, but haven't heard of anyone else staying?

The issue now will be keeping them out of the portal, attracting talent is important but so is retaining talent. I’m sure Dabo harps on development and is transparent about the fact nobody is guaranteed anything and developing them into starters and eventually the NFL is the goal. But getting an 19-20 yo kid to stay the course when the portal supplies a seemingly “easy” path to starting has got to be the hardest part of Dabo’s job now

He seems to be doing very well in that regard. We are not losing much from our 2-deep in comparison to our peers...not even close. I think that's why we aren't seeing big wins from the portal - our NIL funds are focused on retention.
