Recruiting

Jan 18, 2013, 7:33 AM

Is it me but I read these articles about clemson was the first to offer then you read about other schools checking in on that target seems to me that clemson coaches know talented players when they see them play. I guess what I am asking does anyone else on this forum notice that after clemson has made an offer other schools follow. It is if they follow us around waiting to see who we recruiting what do you guys think

It does look like we're quicker to recognize talent.

I don't read much into that sort of thing, as I believe it

occurs nationwide. Clemson offers recruits after others have. Thus, I'm more interested in those we sign...and why I prefer to leave the nitty-gritty of the tasks up to the staff.

You may be right but you got to remember there are maybe 300 top recruits across the nation and 120 or so schools needing players and all wanting top players.
Then you toss in the fact that recruits would like to play in areas that mom and pop can watch them play. They will get multiple offers from shoe ins and long shots.

at doing the legwork.

The other schools just follow Clemson coaches lead.

It's like how walmart will do a demographics study of an area to determine where their store should go, and as soon as walmart builds, in comes Home Depot, Lowes, etc..

Riding the back of somebody else's assessment.

Well, the opposite was true with Carl Lawson.

His HS coach was wondering why we hadn't offered him when other schools had....glad we came around.

I'm guessing that perception is due to the fact that the

first school to offer is not listed for every recruit. If so, we would be first in a small percentage of cases. In fact, you might even have the impression, "Wow, we must be following __________ around, offering all their prospects."
