You may want to look at the stats from FBS. Just because teams are P5, that doesn't mean they're all in the top 65.

So it's absolutely relative.
Like I said, we weren't chopped liver. We clearly have some issues in the secondary. We were 13th in rushing defense, but were 77th (!) in pass defense.
Again, 28th isn't horrible at all. We wouldn't have won 11 games without that defense. But again, the negative Nancy, insinuating that everyone lit us up or whatever ,was just plain wrong.

You HAVE to expect a little regression with BV leaving - And the offense added a little extra pressure on the defense.
I think Goodwin and the defense will grow into a fine unit in the coming years.

We had a DL that the pundits claimed was top 2, if not the best in the country coming in. Preseason AA LB in Simpson, and Trotter proved to be a stud too. The secondary was suspect.
We play in the ACC for goodness sakes where we should dominate.
And before we blame the offense for leaving them on the field… NCST, Cuse, and Kentucky didn’t have good offenses either and did better statistically than we did.
Loaded with NFL talent and couldn’t finish top-25. Not emotions getting to us, it’s a lack of production based on our talent level.

Like I said, 28th is not chopped liver and by no means indicates everyone including LA Tech lit us up. Tech had 311 yds passing and freaking -14 yards rushing.
And too, we were 13th I'm rushing defense, while bring 77th in pass defense. The DL did pretty good all things considered. We need a new DB coach, but that's a different topic.

28th with the talent we have is completely unacceptable. 28th D back in the early 2000s... yes, I'll take that. And no, we werent necessarily "lit up", but we were chopped liver relative to what we should've been.

LA Tech has a good passing offense and they did get 311 passing against us. So, yeah.
But guess how many rushing yards they had? MINUS 14 YARDS.
LA Tech lit us up for a grand total of 297 yards.

Defense wasn’t the problem. They got tired of waiting for our offense to show up, coot.
It was 14-6 until almost the 4th qtr.

#1 offense to over 100 yds less than our hapless offense got on them. They padded their offensive stats against weak SEC defenses. That’s who they should be laughing at, coot.

They shouldn't be laughing. Their offense had 150 yards less than and scored 15 points less than their season average.
Bad Red Zone offense by the Tigers is the only reason TN won.

Bad coaching was the main reason they won. Big flop by the offensive coaching staff.
Dline grossly underachieved all season s well. It will be interesting to see how many actually stick in the NFL. Or maybe it was defensive play calling. Hoping Wes self scouts and makes some adjustments, because what he did this year was very average.

Our defense got tired when the offense ran 101 plays and had a 12 minute advantage in time of possession. I don't think that was the problem.

They defended few enough plays to not be tired. Its not like our O kept going 3 and out like 2014 UGA where they eventually gave out. This games wasnt the one to suggest that ANY of the Ds issues were due to lack of offense on out part.

I thought our D did not blitz enough this year. We should have never let a qb stand in the pocket and have time to throw with our LB's and DL.

Big plays simply killed us. I think we held them to 6 "3 and outs" so most of those yards were associated with scores, and much of it on chunk plays.
