to the opener with UGA next year. That is probably a make it or break it game to being in the CFP for Clemson. No way does Dabo want to be out of contention after the first game. If we lose, We would have to run the table to even be considered. We play a pretty weak schedule next year, so SOS will not help us.

2 loss, yes, 3 loss doubtful. Top 6 ranked conference champions and then the next 6 highest ranked teams. Doubtful there will be a 3 loss team among the last 6.

Tell your friend they would have to be among the 3 highest ranked for 6 spots (7-12). First 6 spots are conference champions.

All of that is true about a loss to UGA, but is unrelated to what I said. We could lose it and get into the CFP, we could win it and not get in. None of that will be known after game one, so not sure what it is that I don't get.

You are if you lose 2.You don't want to start the season with a loss and then have to win the next 12.

It isn't automatic but close. You still have to be among the top 6 ranked conference champions.

I think if we get slaughtered by Georgia (a distinct possibility) it will put us in too deep a hole to dig ourselves out of - given our SOS.
But maybe I am wrong, given that the top 12 teams will get in.
If we play them well - and lose by a small margin, then I don't think we would get punished too harshly for it.

The 6 highest ranked conference champions get in so winning the conference will be the major focus after the UGA game and the spread won't matter that much if we lose.

Getting stomped by Duke in the first game pretty much knocks you out of the playoff. Losing to Georgia in game 1 is not going to knock you out of the playoff especially a 12 team one. All goals would still be there.

The beginning of our offensive woes was against UGA in the first game of the 2021 season. The end of our offensive woes begins against them in the opener next year. That would be very fitting, wouldn't it!
Seriously, I think the Ga defense was the main reason for the downfall of DJU. He had never seem anything like that, and he never recovered.

I always wondered about this type of scenario. How do you get your kids pumped up enough to win such a big game - and yet not set them up for such a crushing defeat if they should lose - that they don't go into the tank for the next few games.
I agree, a win against Georgia would announce that we were BACK in a big way.
But I am going to have to see a WHOLE lot of offensive improve before that enters my realm of possibility.

I was going to make a similar post. I believe he has a vision of going head to head with the dawgs in the opener and is leaving no stone unturned to be able to do that. I believe that game will drive him to make a couple worthwhile pickups in the portal as well. You know how you get your house all cleaned up and in order before somebody comes to visit - it’s like that. Except he wants it looking good all season for the new 12 team playoffs. Wheat from chaff and all that type of stuff. The COVID years and recruiting classes have nearly aged out. It’s balls to the wall from here on out til Dabo moves on or retires. I believe he wants to DOUBLE the size of the trophy case during his tenure.

6 Teams could be ranked next season whenever Clemson plays against them. 4 of them will be ranked for sure.
