Future at cornerback is bright for the Tigers
The future of the cornerbacks’ room couldn’t be brighter for Clemson or coach Mike Reed.
Returning is starter Derion Kendrick and sophomores LeAnthony Williams and Mario Goodrich, freshmen Andrew Booth, Jr. and Sheridan Jones will see their roles increase, along with the addition of newcomers Fred Davis and Malcolm Greene. Full Story » |

Fortunately Joe Burrow will be in the NFL next year and not in the college playoffs. Joe lacks TL16's howitzer, but he made up for it with poise and touch. That said, look for Sam Howell and other QB's to go deep against the Tigers more often in 2020.
So who will Reed and BV have back there at CB and safety by mid-year? Any educated guesses? Lots of talent. Lots of options.

Going to very interesting and intriguing to watch the spring play out. Think Davis could make the 2 deep by fall. A little shocked at the low snap count for Mario last year behind AJ. Thought we had opportunities to get him on the field more often.
Thought we'd hear more from him.

Meant to add if anyone thinks we'll move booth to safety or a linebacker. Seems like after Turner, we're thin and definitely will rely on youth... Unless we convert someone.
Who's our next Simmons?

Mike Jones - I think will come in and fill the Isiah Simmons/ Dorian O'Daniel LB spot.

Wasn't just Burrow! You have to give a ton of credit to the OC for LSU as well. He luckily is said to have a chip on his shoulder about not getting the credit he was due at New Orleans! Thankfully for me: "he is with the Carolina Panthers"! Yeah, Yeah, Yeah! Kick us while we are down, LOL!
Anyway, Sam Howell would have to meet us in the ACC championship game to go deep on us. By then our young guys will be ready! Plus, U of No-Compliance is good at WR but not deep like this past seasons LSU team. We'll be fine. Plus, their line won't be able to hold up. Our DL will be more disruptive than last season! I feel if we had the DL we had in 2018 season we would have controlled LSU much better. Plus, football 101, you can't keep giving a team as good as LSU the ball. i.e. our offense was shut down too many times by a defense that was really below average for LSU.
In short, we have a talented secondary coming this season and I can't wait to see them compete. Now that the season is over I will admit - I was very concerned about our DL play all season! We were good because we would get leads and force the play calling of the other teams offense. i.e. you aren't going to call a bunch of running plays down by 21 probably. A secondary compliments the DL(sacks) and a good DL compliments the DL(int's/pbu's).
L.S.S - we will be better on the DL and by default it can't help but make us better in the secondary! Not that these guys will need a whole lot. We loaded at DE, CB and I want to say LB but those guys haven't played. They have just flashed lots of potential. Still concerned about the DT and S spots but I think we will be fine!

Stayed right with him on two go routes, broke up a pass on one of them. He's gonna be good, especially after a year of learning, weights and nutrition.
The bad news is our secondary will be YOUNG this year, but with a sky-high ceiling.
