Just hear Skalski say a freshman to keep an eye on is Shipley. Says he thinks we’ll see ETN freshman year type runs this season. ??

Or maybe it was code for “just watch in fall scrimmage I’m gonna show that freshman what it’s like to get hit by a 6 year college monster”.

It would be nice. If the O-line is up to the task, then I wouldn't doubt it. If they are, then my eye is going to be on all of our backs.

I fully expect to see much improvement on Oline. Last season was the worst I’ve seen them play in a while. But Skalski must have seen some things in practice for him to say that.

Meh…sounds like coach speak from a six year veteran who plans to pursue coaching if doesn’t get an NFL shot to me.

May very well be coach speak but I’m not going to try to dissect it. I’m going to choose to believe and be excited. Even if he’s wrong.
Go Tigers!

No doubt. We've had plenty of talent at RB the last several years. Once the O-line catches up, look out.

Will will be more than most of us expected because many thought he couldn’t run with the big boys.
He was a 5 star that he definitely had to earn it. I have been saying all along he was the best player in this group & he will prove it on the field.
Will will(had to do that one more time) be exceptional out of the backfield on wheel routes too.
Let’s Go!

I would love it if you're right. If I recall correctly, Coach C.J. Spiller spoke highly of Will in his ACC media days interview. Spiller seems like a straight shooter. I don't anticipate many coach speak type comments coming from him. It would certainly be fun to see Shipley and Lyn-J have a few break out games with explosive chunk plays like Travis. Although not as sexy as those types of runs, I would be perfectly content with seeing better production when we have to get those tough yards to move the chains. That's where I would love to see Pace, Dukes, and eventually Mafah step up.

Might be a repeat of the T Lawrence & K Bryant situation that was "reported" by her.

ETN was breaking homeruns against the first team defense from the first practice.
Haven't heard that about any of the current running backs.
Given the QB situation, seems like RB play will be determined by knowledge of the system and pass protection which makes it less likely a freshman will get much playing time early.

Definitely don’t think we’re getting ETN 2.0. I mean best pure RB in school history. Spiller gets my APB vote. But if he’s 75% of ETN I’ll take it.

I watched the spring game again yesterday. It looks like Will may be handling kick off returns...if there is still such a thing. Phil Mafah looked really good in the game and I think Dabo even said something noticing his runs. But it seems like the praise has cooled down now?

I'll start by saying that I hope he is right and this kid makes national freshman of the year. But they have not even started the August grind yet, I want to hear this when it is 95 degrees, the pads are popping, and this kid is shedding tackles from elite D1 linemen in full-contact scrimmages. As I recall, when ETN broke out, nobody said a dang thing until he hit that home run against Louisville, then all of a sudden, you see, Jeff Scott had been saying all along to watch out for this kid. The thing is, nobody was talking about him much over the summer, not a peep from the coaches other than, "Well #9 has shown some flashes.". It was not until he broke off that long run against Louisville until the coaches let the cat out of the bag with him, and said, "oh yeah, he was breaking off 70 yarders all through camp."

Yep I remember that. I recall thinking they were keeping him a secret. And I don’t foresee him being the shed tacklers type player. I think he’s game will definitely be speed mixed with juking ability to break off long runs. Also his catching out the backfield is phenomenal so I expect to see more of that this season than him taking handoffs.
