I thought Trent Pearman had the best feel for the game. Not a big arm, but he got the ball to open receivers, never seemed rushed or panicked. I know, except for a disaster of Biblical proportions, he will never start at Clemson but I saw something I didn’t see from the other QBs.
In this holiday season we should be thankful that I am not the coach.

Again it’s called high school to college … 99% of qbs need time to develop … this is very very normal ppl name two schools in your life time that have had qbs come in like DW and TL… doesn’t happen and we just got extremely lucky they were ready

Banker was actually before kyler… and baker was legit but kyler didn’t produce until his JR year if I’m not mistaken …
I’ll give you the Palmer then Leinart… but that makes my point that of all the history of college football that’s the only example besides DW and TL that close together …. My point is that 99% of qbs take time to develop and cade is only a soph that has only played one year in a new system … how about let’s give the kid atleast until next year to see what happens , I expect a big jump and if not then we can talk about another qb but I just find it very dumb to talk about another qb until he’s given time … but ppl are doing it bc they have come to expect a DW or TL to walk through and that’s just very far from the norm.

...Not even close.
Great kid...needs some more development. A bit worried that we have no takes at QB in 24. 2025 kid has huge upside, but was injured most of last season and plays extremely weak comp. Outside of OL, QB is the next hardest pos. group to project.
I know Cade takes alot of heat, some deserved, some not. But better hope he doesn't go down....

Dabo said that Vizzina was going to count as our 2024 QB since we redshirted him. But yes, I am concerned as well. I would have liked us to have signed someone to compete with Vizzina for the backup spot.

He played in a lot different system too. He is a great runner which would be benefit but he hadn't played RPO. It was designed passes and not reading defense. He had a big learning curve.

If this is correct, it's concerning ....I think a big problem we have had since the Watson and Lawrence eras have been QBs who don't fully understand defensive coverages and don't have the ability to adjust in real time .
I truly do believe that Cade can be a good QB at Clemson but I hope in the off-season he is studying defenses and learning what to look for so he can scan the field faster for open receivers and get the ball out of his hands. His general field awareness and internal clock is just not where it needs to be yet

Dabo's plan was to create a 2 year gap between QBs. Hebert will likely

redshirt as well when he comes in. That will create a situation where we have a 2 year gap between our Senior QB in Cade, a redshirt Sophomore in Vizzina and a redshirt in Hebert. When Cade leaves , we'll have a Redshirt Junior and Redshirt Freshman at QB.
Swinney and the Tigers intend to redshirt Vizzina.
“We hope that [Christopher Vizzina] can be our ’23 signee and our ’24 signee if you will and it really kinda sets us up with a good situation with Cade being a junior and him being a redshirt freshman which tells you how we feel about CV. I think we got a great player right there,” Swinney said.
“Who know what’s going to happen, right? It rarely goes according to the ###### but that’s certainly something that we hope to be able to do and get some playing time, get him some experience. Helms and Paul have to really be able to bridge that gap for us.”
That is not a bad plan from the future Hall of Fame head coach; Vizzina redshirting makes sense for both the quarterback and the team. Swinney clearly has a plan for Vizzina, and the future looks bright for the young quarterback.

Awesome plan...except when the highly regarded QB signee doesn't really pan out.
DJ is gone. Cade still isn't playing at the high level expected and needed...
I'd rather take a QB every year and possibly lose some to the portal than not have a dude.

and keep them with the portal available, when they know you will take a QB in every class. Given the developmental nature of football and the fact that QB is the most difficult position in all of sports, the difficulty of finding first year talent like Trevor and DeShaun, along with what we are seeing from 5th and 6th year QBs in college football this year, I like Dabo's plan. If the players don't pan out with the extra year of development, then you can go into the portal.

Same reason why UNC redshirted Drake Maye when Sam Howell was their starting QB.
During Maye’s true FR year, Howell was better than Maye.

His team had a losing record and lost big in most games. That said, Vizzina has QB leadership moxie & passing skill sets. Hopefully, Garrett Riley will be in Clemson a few years to coach him up.

Yeah, I hope he develops too, since he might have the physical sets (I'm not willing to say he definitely does).
But you're right about his high school. His stats were HORRIBLE compared to any of our last 5 quarterbacks. He also played in a fairly weak league yet lost big in most of his games. He also didn't do particularly well in camps (his best was the Elite 11, and there he was #14). He has a lot of developing so it didn't surprise me at all that he didn't crack the three deep.

One of the things I read about him was that he is pretty young for his class. I think he turned 18 in late April of this year. Giving him another year to develop physically makes sense too.
