I respect Spurrier's accomplishments, but there is no way

Oct 13, 2015, 9:03 PM

around the fact that he flat out quit on his team and fans. I've even heard reporters today say that wasn't the case and then turn around in the same interview and say he just doesn't like to lose and he couldn't see losing more games down the stretch. That's quitting! He couldn't stick it out for six more weeks? Don't tell me it was for the best for recruiting and hiring a coach. He simply had to say, I'm resigning or retiring effective the end of the season. Then the school can begin the search immediately.

He just quit on the University of South Carolina, his players and the fans of the school. No way to disguise that. Am I missing something?

"Gamecocks aren’t ready to take college football by storm just yet. They’re not even ready to compete in their own state – Clemson will still own the territory. Gamecocks fans would be smart to keep their heads buried until that time. Avoid talking trash to a much better Clemson program.” -Dustin Tackett

as they run onto the field through fire extinguisher "smoke".

Their fight song is a Broadway show tune.

How much value should we place on where usuck fans lavish their devotion? I hope they all get the opportunity to read Mark Bradley's piece in today's AJC.

I respect the accomplishments of any man who has won a Heisman. I respect the accomplishment of any man who has has played 10 years in the NFL. I respect the accomplishment of any man who has head coached a IA national title team. I do not respect Spurrier as a person. His character is nothing to be respected.

Yesterday he was an embarrassment who spent too much time on the golf course and today all they can do is praise him even tho he never led them to an SEC championship. Deep down they claim to be so proud of him but they are delighted he's gone.

SOS was introduced this morning: three in the front row and Pastides, Tanner, and Elliott beside the podium.

The SPIN is that this gives Shawn Elliott a chance.

Oct 13, 2015, 9:23 PM

They say SOS is being loyal and this is classy.

I say that this is BullSPIN. I say that the AD casually suggested that Spurrier think about making this his last season, and Spurrier got his panties in a wad and quit. He QUIT. There is no way around that. HE QUIT. That is not classy.

If they had beaten LSU, he would not be QUITING.***

It's amazing that even after Spurrier takes a giant dump on their program, their moronic fan base still tries to defend his totally self-serving actions.

Bartender...another round of Cootaid for the delusional fans in garnet and black. It's on Spurrier.

Just the part where he was fired.

Oct 13, 2015, 10:05 PM

He 'resigned,' just like every other coach who wants to keep his pay going.

Agree, he accomplished a lot but he quit on his team after telling them less than a year ago when he recruited them the opposite.

and his issues becoming public, and with coot players going rogue with tweets, interviews, call in shows (and tweeting about spurrier drinking in at least one instance) its possible Tanner and maybe the Prez said coach you cant be drinking around here. I think they tried to get control of him and he said screw you and quit.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Was thinking about the Spurrier situation last night...

Oct 14, 2015, 11:38 AM

...and I was genuinely sad for his players-- kids that HE recruited-- that he just quit on once the going got tough. His timing was absolutely atrocious. It was self-serving and a betrayal of his team. He's a quitter-- no two ways about it.
