Michigan and UW (when they had success) did a great job of downfield blocking (wrs, backs, tight ends , OL - basically anyone and everyone)… this makes a huge difference on how effective your backs and wide receivers are…

I hope we can get back to that level of execution on offense..

I didn’t find Michigan or UW play calling to be anything special - but the execution was there (particularly for Michigan.)

Although they lost, I liked the offense formations of Washington.

I agree - however ..downfield blocking would turn 6 yard plays into the chunk plays our offense (or any offensive scheme for that matter) needs…

Our blocking at the line of scrimmage isn’t so abysmal that zero plays happen - but we aren’t maximizing the potential of our successful plays…

Particularly in the case of Michigan - they ran some basic stuff that became big plays because someone crushed a defender down field..

Really it’s something very simple that makes an offense look “explosive”…

Go back and watch our games from the natty years. You will see us doing the same thing. Charone Peake, Artavis Scott, Amari Rodgers, all excellent blocking WRs.

While it would be great to have WR who could make plays and get open and catch balls that hit their hands, my disgust over the last few years has been their unwillingness to block.

Seems like all it takes is effort and if they aren't willing to do it they should sit while someone else plays.
