This was my Uncle's show. Here is a post detailing the entire thing. I think it was pathetic. Very Pathetic!
I have never been fired via email before but it happened this morning. I received an email from Chris Downey, Station Manager for WCCP and told me that The UFO Show has been cancelled. The reasons were because we stood upon our believes and values. Here is the email that was sent. Let WCCP know if you agree or disagree with this action.
Tommy, Casey and Jimmy,
I received an email regarding your show last night from someone that was listening. Someone on the show reference their dislike of homosexual individuals while on the air. Here is the email that was sent to me immediately after it happened:
I was listening to the sports talk show from 7-9 on Tuesday night and was appalled at the subject matter being discussed. One of the guys was talking about how he doesn’t agree with homosexuality. This isn’t the first time he has been blatantly offensive. I thought you should know. I do not tune in for his social commentary on issues non-sports related (including religion and constantly referencing the fact that he is a Christian).You may not realize how many gay people actually listen to sports talk radio or patronize the businesses that advertise on your station. Nothing short of a sincere on-air apology will suffice. If this does not happen, then I will be forced to quit frequenting any of the businesses that advertise here and will pass the word along. I have already notified several of your advertisers by email. Thanks in advance for correcting this situation.
While I understand the format you are trying to bring to your show (Upstate Facts and Opinions) we really have no place for this on WCCP. I understand that your show brings in revenue and that all of you are very well known in the community, however, I can’t continue to let you operate under the forums you have been operating under. We are a SPORTS TALK STATION and we are going to be a SPORTS TALK STATION going forward. I receive more complaints regarding your show than I do any other show on the air based on the topics and stances taken on your show by you guys. I have listened to your show several times and I personally do not find it entertaining at all and the times I have listened to it I found it to be very off topic for the station. We do not have room on this station for politics, personal views on homosexuality, gun control or any of those other topics. I am sorry, this just isn’t the station for that type of talk. You would be better suited at another station like WRIX or WORD if they would have you.
I want you guys to know that I believe 100% in free speech and being allowed to say what you feel. However, I also believe in professionalism and using your head when it comes to the bigger picture in life. You cannot use these airwaves for your personal views on anything and everything. You have to keep in mind what you represent, who you represent and the businesses that you are representing while on the air. The excuse of this show is “The Upstate Fact and Opinion” show is not a valid one, I am sorry.
Beginning today the UFO show will no longer be on WCCP. I can’t continue to put the station at risk of losing advertisers, listeners and most of all not have the quality which we are trying to obtain with our daily programming.
If you want to call your advertisers and let them know you will no longer be on the air with us please do so. You can let them know that we will honor their contracts for them at the rate at which you sold them and run their spots in the programming we air during that time slot.
I am sorry to have to do this but your comments crossed the line and this isn’t the first time this has happened and it won’t be the last if I continue to allow this to happen.
You can feel free to call me to discuss this matter but I have made up my mind regarding this issue. I appreciate everything you have done while I have been here and wish you best of luck moving forward.

I am not saying I agree nor disagree with what they were speaking about. I do however find it pathetic that they halted an entire show that as he said below was making money, just because one person wrote a letter disagreeing with their stance.
Nobody will ever agree 100% completely with everyone, that's just life.

Also, why not just change the station instead of jeopardizing someone's job? This PC crap is out of hand.
Also, way to man up and fire someone over email. That's the most cowardly thing I've heard in a while. No wonder a fraud like Deptula can bully his way into having more time on air.
Hopefully the UFO guys at least call this nancy and tell him what they think. Best of luck to them!

Chris seemed to make some good points however and I tend to agree with him. I don't agree with doing it by email, but for some reason I hear more and more companies are doing terminations that way. Sad.

Just like I don't listen to a country station to hear rap.
It is low class to fire someone by email, but it also not the high road to put an email between two parties out for the public to see. It may be legal but not morally right.

Also, I can understand not wanting to hear Upstate Facts and Opinions, AKA UFO, when listening to WCCP the sports station. However the show has been on the air for many years now under the same pretense. It's not like they have anything better to replace it with, especially with something that makes money. People don't pay for the station, advertisers do.

by going public with this email. I know I would never hire someone who posted a former employers email online. He gave a reason for firing them. He just didn't do it professionally, just like they are unprofessional about posting this email.

I was not a fan of this show and can't imagine the ratings were good.However in my opinion the email I just read was not very professional and I probably would've said something to the fact of, the radio station was going in another direction.Thank you for your service.Or something a little more professional.

I wish sports commentators would focus on sports. It's always irritating when the in game annoucers lose track of what's happening on the field because they are talking about everything, but what is taking place on the field. Listeners want to hear intelligent talk and subjects of interest and do not care to hear about someones personal opinions about religion, politics, or social issues. Good for WCCP if this is in fact true. I agree with the other commentor. Shame on you for posting a personal letter on a sports forum.

I was driving up from Myrtle last Wed. night and they spent more time talking about the middle east then they did about sports.
They are redneck morons who have know place in professional broadcasting.
I don't see how they got hired in the first place. If anyone else should be fired it should be this GM for putting such garbage on the radio as this and other programs.

I didnt listen to the show a whole lot but I didnt mind the hosts views.
What is the difference in a commercial saying that I DONT hit my 8 iron 150 yards or just flat telling me I have no idea how far I hit my clubs.
Whats the difference in letting Gamecock fans call in and bash Clemson on the Clemson Flagship station.
I LIke Philpotts show and Deptula is tolerable but I wish there was another station around I can listen too.
